Hello i'm doing researches for school on this subjet but I have trouvle finding relevant informations on the way people's lives were impacted by the crisis

Historians, especially in pre-modern times, frequently mention poisoning or contamination of water sources as a commonly used scorched earth tactic, but what did this actually entail? What substances were commonly used for this purpose, how effective were they, and what decontamination options would have been available?

I'm thinking of the Hongwu emperor, Kublai Khan, and a couple of the Manchu emperors as examples. In their paintings on wikipedia, their eyes are depicted as a light grey or blue colour, with a darker ring around the iris. Is this a stylistic choice, or did they have light coloured eyes? Is this caused by a seperate set of genes to those that cause Caucasian blue eyes?

If it's genetic rather than an artistic choice, were light eyes common in northern China until recently? When and why did this change?

I’ve often seen ~1520 cited as the year that the crossbow began to diminish and fall out of use compared to powder weapons in continental europe. How accurate is this? Did the crossbow persist in any popular forms past this date?

I'm a bit unclear on the original purpose of the camp at Westerbork.

From the Holocaust Encyclopedia: "The Dutch government established a camp at Westerbork in October 1939 to intern Jewish refugees who had entered the Netherlands illegally."

From the Jewish Virtual Library: "This camp had been opened by the Dutch authorities during the summer 1939 in order to receive the Jewish refugees coming from Germany."

I can't quite tell if it was built as a way to help the refugees by giving them a place to live. Or if it was more of an internment camp. The two articles use the words "intern" vs. "receive". Maybe that's where my confusion comes from.

Hey! A naive, but interesting question for me.

I assume Romans had birds to guide them when to wake up? So did they listen to them or woke up as soon as the Sun?

And the second part: did those, who had to work, have a rush-hour like people of today do? I.e. did they had a kind of 9-5 schedule (who was not a slave). Thank you. (edit: grammar)

I'm really curious as to what aspects of Temple era Judaism are still around in modern Judaism and how it's been practiced throughout the ages.

Obviously no plumbing, did they just hang over the side? Also were they allowed on the main deck if they weren't on duty?

Looking around at some of the most rural counties in NC, you see a lot of properties listed on the NRHP, and in my casual looking there seems to be a lot that were listed in 1973-1976.

Is there any particular reason why there was such interest in listing on the NRHP for this region at this time? A theory I had heard once is that these properties were listed (in general, not specifically in this timeframe) as an easy way to attract some tourism interest. Is there any truth to that?

During and before World War I, the Dutch mantained an armed neutrality that would've made it inefficient both in terms of time, and resources to invade, yet in World War II, the Germans invaded through Netherlands, and succeeded, as the Dutch capitulated quickly.

Why did the Germans deem an invasion through Netherlands feasible and worthwile? Would this be related to the pacifist movements during the interwar era, and the lack of preparedness for war in both France, United Kingdoms and Netherlands? Or was it modern developments, such as bombers (the capitulation of Netherlands came right after the bombing of Rotterdam) and modern doctrines?
