It seems that pretty much any book on Spanish history (or a history of the areas on question) is going to spend time on Spain's territories in the Americas, the Philippines, Morocco, the low countries, etc. But you rarely see any mention of a "Spanish Italy" even though they ruled the mezzogiorno for centuries. Why is that? And why did Spain seem to leave such a faint mark culturally?

I've been studying to become an insurance agent and one of the things that's a option is an inflation guard. So that got me a thinking.
What happens when inflation goes above 8% (Like Japan) and how have insurance companies been effected? Also what happens in times of unrest (like Greece)?

Are cults a phenomenon as old as religion? Have they always been considered bad? When did we get the image of the cult we have today?

I’ve tried google scholar but I can’t find anything. If someone could point me in the right direction of a search engine or specific sources that would be fantastic. Thanks.

I’m reading “What They Fought For (1861-1865)” and one of the correspondence letters from a VA Cavalry Officer compares his hatred for yankees to the “Thugs of India”. The context doesn’t provide whether it’s hate from or toward the Thugs of India but it’s capitalized so I’m assuming it was a familiar reference at the time...?

I am curious if there were ever polls done or general surveys particularly from gun activists and people who supported the 2nd amendment (as a major voting issue maybe?) about the Black Panther's use of guns/open carrying to protect their neighborhoods.
Were they more supportive? Was the issue of race (possibly) alternatively weighed (trying to ask I guess how race and 2A support might've interacted)?
If anyone can help narrow down this question or help word it better, i'll take it all.
Thanks.

Hi guys, I'm trying to write an essay on the intentionalist and functionalist views on the holocaust, with arguments and sources.
What i think i might do it bring up an argument for each side and explain how each side views the issue, OR stick with one of the POVs and explain how it makes more sense with sources and arguments.
So far ive only managed to get 1 source, which is a snippet from hitlers book where he talks badly about Jews.
I have the argument that the treatment of Jews escalated in various steps until it reach genocide (cumulative genocide) (supporting the functionality view). I have the argument that Hitler was a weak/strong ruler (both POVS) And the argument that no specific order for the murder of Jews was stated
Basically what i need help with is if there's more arguments so that i can extend my essay, and if there's anymore sources (quotes from books from historians etc) that support either argument? I require at least 3 sources to meet the minimum criteria. I've searched and searched and I'm panicking.
I'm sorry if this is too much to ask, I've tried following the rules. It is my first time here, lmk if i have to delete this :) Thank you guys so much

An "investigator" made this claim in 1921 according to the Kansas City Sun, but the Sun couldn't verify it.

(First off, I know this is irrelevant to the subreddit, but I think you guys could answer more personally) I am 14, and am wondering if going into a career in history will be useful. I say this because I’m not sure of the current job market for history degrees. I love history, and want to pursue it, but I’m not sure if there are many jobs in it. Any help?

I've been looking into African philosophy and whenever I try to look into philosophy from Timbuktu all I get is websites that claim there are philosophical works within the Timbuktu manuscripts, but I've yet to find anything that goes beyond this. Is there a good book that deals in philosophy from Timbuktu? Preferably in english.

How could the language of the Picts be further studied? My only guesses are hoping more stones with symbols/Ogham script are found or studying the etymology of Scots Gaelic words not present in Irish or Manx. Does anyone have any sources on known words/grammar? How else could the language be studied with so little written evidence?

There is only one Emperor I can think of who has written anything that has not been lost (Meditations by Marcus Aurelius) but I would like to know if there are any other surviving documents, and especially major pieces of literature written by emperors themselves which we still have access to, whether it is poetry, autobiography, laws, etc.
Suetonius claims Augustus had written an incomplete autobiography, poetry, and commentaries (Augustus 85) but to my understanding, these have all been lost.

I know that WWI was called "The Great War" or "The War to End All Wars" when it was happening and all the names they had for the time period that it happened. But I don't understand how they decided that "this is WWI and this is WWII" specifically for these two wars.

I was having a conversation with a friend where I named some of the historical places I would visit if I had a time machine, to which he responded, “you would literally puke, everything smelled terrible back then.” It makes sense, but was it really that bad? What would a given city from history be like for one of us to experience? How did they contemporaries deal with the stench?

I am taking a greek history class and in the class it is described that during Alexander's campaign in India his army is generally shocked by the Indian forces using elephants in battle. After Alexanders death elephants spread throughout the mediterranean (elephants are used by Carthage, Macedon and others). How did they go about getting and training these elephants? Where they traded from India and/or from Africa? Do we have any archaeology or other record of the ancient elephant trade, and what do we know about it in general?

I'm prompted to this question because I have recently seen some single-sex organizations argue in favor of staying that way by invoking notions of tradition and the constitutional right to free association. I have half a memory of reading of these same arguments being made for segregated communities and restricted country clubs, but it's only half a memory. Could an expert weigh in on the counterarguments to integration in the 1950s-1970s or so?

Not sure if this is the right sub but I'll try anyway.
This source claims to be a recording of captain Arthur H. Rostron, yet it doesn't give a year or any info about what it was recorded for or by who, the description simply says:" I am not fully certain as to the date of this recording". I couldn't find any other mentions of him ever giving an interview on the radio or any other form of recording, so if you happen to have any info verifying or disproving the validity please let me know.
