How/where were NVA and Vietcong prisoners of war kept during the Vietnam War?

I have recently been watching a lot of videos about American POWs in the Vietnam War (the Hanoi Hilton , torture, brainwashing, propaganda etc.). I was wondering what it was like for POWs from the other side and if any first person accounts exist from NVA/Vietcong prisoners?

During WWII Ultra, Purple, and Bodyguard are well known large-scale successes of Allied counter-espionage. Are there examples of any Axis successes?

In the global West at least, Barbarossa and the attack on Pearl Harbor are considered failures of the Allied powers to anticipate Axis moves, or at least a failure by policy makers to read the reports from people who full well knew what was coming. Were there any deadset Axis intelligence coups that people from Allied countries would not be aware of.

In September 1939 Germany and the Soviet Union attacked Poland. Poland had defensive treaties with the great Britain and France. They declared war on Germany but not on the soviet Union. Why?

In general the more I read about the early part of the 2nd world war the more it seems that everyone forgot about what the soviet Union did , even at that time.

(Invading Finland, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, part of Moldova, pushing in the far East for Mongolia, Poland, etc)

Did the city of Verdun, France and surrounding forts such as Fort Douaumont and Fort Vaux play any significant role in World War II?

As we all know Verdun was the location of one of bloodiest battles of The Great War and human history. However, I've hardly hear anything about Verdun during WWII. I'm curious if anything significant happened in the historic site twenty years later.

How did the Persians lose the Byzantine-Sasanian War of the early 7th Century?

I've been wrangling with this one for a while now, as this defeat seems to be one of the most important in the progression of history, as without it Islam almost certainly wouldn't have risen as it did. It seems by the 620s that Xusrou II was completely unstoppable and Constantinople would fall to Persia. How did Heraxlius manage to so thoroughly turn the conflict around to that of q Byzantine victory and cause the disintegration of the Sasanian state?

Persia had control over Egypt, Jerusalem, the Levant, Armenia, and most of Anatolia - it just strikes me as a forgone conclusion that Byzantium would fall. All answers appreciated!

How were town buildings constructed in the Old West of America, circa 1880s?

I love old westerns and am curious as to how a town was laid out and built. It looked like there was one wide, main dirt road, with buildings on either side. The buildings seemed built up off of the dirt, but were they on piles, some kind of stone foundation, etc? Would the initial foundation have been different for the first stone buildings (courthouses, other govt buildings)? Those who farmed seemed to live out on their spread, but did people build homes in town too?

How did weapons control in the USA begin?

The US Constitution’s 2nd Amendment says the right to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed. Mostly this debate is centered on firearms, but many other forms of military grade equipment are banned. Private citizens cannot own nuclear weapons, WMD’s, missiles, advanced fighter aircraft etc, and this is commonly accepted. How and when did the practice of presenting citizens from possessing advanced weaponry start?

What's currently the best understanding of why the Roman Empire fell, and how much is known of the years after in western Europe?

I've heard more than one story as to the why, and I don't know if what I know is up to date or right. I've also understood that not much is known about the period right after, and I wonder if that's still true.

Burning of the Palais de Justice in WWII

So I'm reading a book on my family history written by my uncle, and in this book he recalls his father taking him onto the rooftop of their flat in Brussels on Rue de Douvres. His father was a member of the Belgian Resistance under General Jules Pire and the recipient of a medal of a roaring lion flanked by a laurel wreath with a valor device.

On this particular evening, his father told him of a plan that they had devised for that evening concerning the Palaise de Justice, which the Gestapo was using to store all their files on Belgian citizens. The plan was to send a team of men from the resistance to the palace feigning drunkenness, overpower the guards, work their way to the center of the dome and light the records on fire. He remained on the rooftop until later that evening he could see the flames ignite the sky.

I know this is a firsthand account to a degree, but to what extent do historical records collaborate this story? According to Wikipedia the fire was started by a retreating German Army.

Do Historians disagree/ argue over specific events of JFK’s assassination?

Do Historians agree or disagree on the specific events that took place prior, during, and after JFK’s assassination? Any conflicting argument?

I’m looking for historical arguments. For instance, some Historians argue Lincoln was assassinated by a rouge/ disgruntled actor... but later Historians say it was an inside job by the Confederacy (considering Lincoln’s second-term VP was a Southerner.)

Please... No Conspiracy Theorist.

Thanks Reddit!

During WWII, was either front more desires by American recruits? In post war America, was either front considered more prestigious?

I can imagine that the European from might seem less dangerous, but on the other hand Americans held a personal grudge against Japan following Pearl harbor.

Regarding the prestige, the European front was decided by the boots on the ground and not by a super weapon, but on the other hand, the European front was a combined effort, so I'm curious how that affected things.
