I know there were lots of secret societies around this period and I suspect it may have something to do with that, but if it's not please illuminate me

I was recently arguing with users on another subreddit about the Ukrainian famine. It seems like there is a Capitalist/fascist perspective that views the famine as a genocide (the Holodomor), and then there is the socialist/communist perspective that it was an administrative failure stemming from collectivization, not an intentional act.
I would have thought this was a much discussed topic, but one user who cited AskHistorians in their answer could only bring up 5 year old threads, so it seems high time for an answer that is up to the modern standards of this sub.
So my question is, which view is more supported by the available historical evidence?

I was sitting in English class really bored so I was looking around the room and there was a girl who had a sticker of the confederate flag on her laptop. At first I was a little mad, but as I thought about it more and more I started thinking maybe there is more to it than meets the eyes. I am not well informed on the civil war at all so I thought maybe I am missing something but, I was taught was that the confederate flag is a symbol of hate. I was wondering if there is there any positive connotations to it? Is there any positive reason why someone would have a bumper sticker of it?

Why was Andropov and the Kremlin elite in general so paranoid in 1983 as to almost cause a nuclear war? Were they senile? I mean I get it, they went through WW2 and Barbarossa, but still. And why at that point of all times? Why were they so scared of Reagan? Why did they believe a first strike was coming? Did they not realize they would always be able to launch a massive retaliation to destroy the US, even by submarines alone? Surely they knew that. By the 1970s and 1980s there was easily MAD. Why were they scared of the Pershings? They had hundreds of SS20s as well! What else gave them their opinion that the US was planning a strike? Were they also fed false information by the Stasi or others?

If movies are anywhere close to accurate. For centuries almost every country had armies with thousands of men who all had swords, armor, shields, axes, hammers, Morningstars, etc. For the whole world that seems like once guns became widely used that would leave millions of of handheld weapons. What happened to all of them?

Why it owes more to Trade Unionism than Marxism is pretty obvious; but why Methodism?

I heard that the god Marduk was very unimportant until Babylonia made him important to match the newly acquired political power and that one king (can't remember the name, sorry) commissioned this poem in which Marduk becomes the new supreme God.
But that sounds to me like if the Indian government made up a story with the hindu Gods to explain why Saraswati (just to put an example) is now more important than Shiva or Krishna to promote their political agenda, people would never accept it, so why did the people of Mesopotomia go along with it?

Hello. I'm writing a short story about the brazilian wizarding school from Harry Potter, and I'm researching the inhabitants and cultures of its time of foundation.
The school is believed to have been founded in the 9th century, and is historically known to accept students from all of South America, being culturally diverse, so I was thinking of describing its foundation as some sort of agreement between the magical communities of the continent that existed around that time.
What kinds of notorious societies existed around this time in south america? To the biggest, most structured to nomad groups. I have a very basic understanding of mesoamerican history, since I'm brazilian, but I'd like to be pointed out to some interesting reads on the matter, please. Articles, books, papers. Anything to get me long enough of a list of peoples to start researching.
As it's fiction, and the very nature of the franchise is to always have a hidden truth to what non-magical history says, some flexibility is allowed. I just wanted to have a solid historic base to avoid any gross mistakes and to get some interesting ideas from it as well.
Thanks in advance.

In a recent interview, Trump says he might try to end birthright citizenship guaranteed in the 14th amendment. During the passage of this amendment, what was the understanding regarding this clause? Was it only intended to guarantee citizenship to freed slaves, or did Senators anticipate that it could be used to grant citizenship to children of immigrants?

Why could people not draw in the Middle Ages? I find it hard to believe that one guy in renaissance Italy thought of drawing a face properly and no one else in the world had tried it before

Wikipedia says it means college of Devils but google translate says Divers. I would imagine devils is a mistranslation but I am happy to be corrected. Even if it does mean divers, I'd be interested to know what they were diving for.

Why is it 18 instead of say 20 which is a round number? Picking an age is of course arbitrary and I'm curious why we now universally think of 18 as being an adult. 18 is of course an even number, so it gives it preference over say 17 or 19 (but then places like the US picked 21 for many other "adult" things). In the past 16 year olds would be considered adults for many purposes as well but it now seems like 18 is becoming the universal number every country is gravitating towards. What is the history on how we got here?
