I am writing my dissertation on the 1918 election. Can anyone suggest any resources to find out what factors led to the success of Sinn Fein and historiography surrounding the election ? I also need data on public opinion about IPP's handling of home rule and the conscription crisis. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
P.S. I have a few questions.
Did the Church endorse SF or nationalism in general?, How important was women for SF’s victory ? , How important were labor unions for SF victory Did the economic situation in Ireland from 1910-1920 influence the election

So medieval knights ever go through the training our soldiers do? Such as obstacle courses that could be similar to terrain they would be faced with. Or did they only do things like sword training

Tales float around the internet about, for example, bee-based vibrators and about her sleeping with a hundred men in a night. How many of these actually go back to ancient accounts, and how many are modern inventions? And are all the ancient accounts biased against her/are there accounts from non-Roman perspectives?

Would you go into it knowing you'll probably be killed before the end or would you have a reasonable chance of seeing retirement?

During what is dubbed the battle of the bastards in season 6 episode 9, John Snow is in battle with the Boltons. Outnumbered 2:1 the fight goes about as expected, John Snow's army is surrounded by pike men and are almost defeated until Sansa and the knights of Vale ride in and save the day.
My questions are: Firstly, was the surrounding of Snows army with pole arms and a wall of shields a valid strategy used during the medieval period. (Examples If possible)
And if so; what could be done to overcome such a strategy, or prevent them from being surrounded in the first place, without the help from additional cavalry.
Tl;dr: Could Snow have won the battle without the help from the knights of vale.
I'm on mobile so apologies if this comes out as one big chunk of text.

It's WW1 photo. They look like Bulgarian soldiers. This "tank" seems to be made of wood. I know there were wooden tank dummies to fool scouts. But why they build it on Balkan front, as there were no tanks? Also, when was this photo taken?

Reading The Making of Modern Japan, I read that the Daimyo of Tsushima, through whom all trade with Korea went, had a domain of 5,000 koku, most of which were from the Korea trade. Since daimyos were strictly defined as being those samurai with estates rating over 10,000 koku, how was the ruler of Tsushima a Daimyo?

I am reading Blackbourn's The Long Nineteenth Century: A History of Germany, 1780-1918 and it is brilliant, but I am wondering if there exists an equivalent for the US. By which I mean, a synthetic history that is a social history with strong focus on consumption, wages, labor, gender, race, and economic history. My preference would actually be a bit earlier (1770s-1810s), but any book inclusive of those dates would be good.

Quoting Donald J. Trump
Well, Napoleon finished a little bit bad. But I asked that. So I asked the president (Macron,) so what about Napoleon? He said "No, no, no. What he did was incredible. He designed Paris." [garbled] The street grid, the way they work, you know, the spokes. he did so many things even beyond. And his one problem is he didn't go to Russia that night because he had extracurricular activities and they froze to death. How many times has Russia been saved by the weather? [garbled]
I'm fairly sure that Napoleon's sex life didn't have anything to do with the French defeat in Russia, but I thought a historian would be a better person to ask.
Did Napoleon's personal conduct have anything to do with his defeat in Russia?

[Small plot spoiler for the new Dunkirk film]
Near the end of Dunkirk, Tom Hardy's character is seen successfully shooting down a Luftwaffe fighter plane after his Hurricane fighter plane has run out of fuel and is gliding. Is there any evidence of something like this occurring in WWII?

I would like to know if anyone that's watched the movie could attest to the historical accuracy during the one battle against the English, where they rolled out this specific equipment that looked like a mace spinning around that basically decapitated soldiers assaulting the walls. Sorry I don't have a picture.

My wife and I were reminded of this while watching The West yesterday evening and immediately wondered if there was a mutual exchange of harmful contagions.
