Are there any books about the morbid aspects of Medieval life? (War, crime, etc)

And I'd also be interested in the same thing for any other pre-1900s time period.

Were unicorns thought of as real animals at different points in history?

What would be the point of including the unicorn in a study of animals like this:

https://drive.google.com/file/d/0BwuhtWGMSK8dSV84YkloenUxMnc/view?usp=sharing

Quoted as: 8. The UNICORN, a Beast which, tho* doubted. of by many Writers, yet is by others thus described : He has but one Horn, and that an exceeding rich one, growing out of the Middle of his Forehead. His Head resembles an Hart's, his Feet an Elephant's, his Tail a Boar's, and the. rest of his Body an Horse's. The Horn is about a Foot and a half in Length. His Voice is like the Lowing of an Ox. His Mane and Hair a-e of a yellowish Colour. His Horn is as hard as Iron, and as rough as any File, twisted or curled like a flaming Sword ; very straight, sharp, and every where black, excepting the Point. Great Virtues are attributed to it, in expelling of Poison, and curing of several Diseases. He is not a Beast of Prey.

Edit: Also noticed they included the manticore and another animal I cant identify, the lamia.

How did the average age of becoming a wife and mother change throughout the centuries?

I know the question is formulated in a somewhat clumsy matter, but I really have no idea how to do it better. The question is a result of me reading that girls in the olden days would get married at a very young age only if they were from a powerful family who had alliances and businesses to attend to, and marriage was a way of solidifying these. Ordinary people would allegedly get married at an age roughly similar to what we see today. How much truth is there in this statement and how did these trends change over time?

In Late Roman sculpture, Emperors are depicted with almost grotesquely huge eyes. Was there a symbolic reason for this or was it a purely stylistic choice?

Nuclear Bomb buried in Goldsboro NC: How did it get there?

I would like a little bit of an explanation of how the Mk-39 hydrogen bomb ended up buried about 185 feet in the soil (as I was told) of Goldsboro NC. As far as I know, there was an incident where a plane had crash. I would also like to know why bombers were carrying armed nuclear bombs over the east coast of the United States in the first place.

Are there any accounts of Dr. Joseph Bell (teacher and mentor to Arthur Conan Doyle at Edinburgh University Medical School and the inspiration for Sherlock Holmes) being a consultant for the police in any way?

There is a BBC series called "The Murder Rooms" which is a take on the inspiration for Sherlock Holmes and shows Bell and Doyle acting much in the same way as Holmes and Watson. I am just curious as to what evidence there was that Bell assisted the police with any murder investigations? I know that he is considered by some to be the father of forensic medicine but are there specific cases? Any book recommendations would be appreciated.

I often see companies or projects claiming they are "making history" with whatever product or initiative. For how long has the concept of "making history" been employed in some form?

For example, as Napoleon conquered half of Europe, did he or anyone at that time discuss the fact that these events would enter the annals of history? If so, how far back can we go to see the same trend? Would thinkers contemporaneous with Alexander the Great have regarded his conquests as likely historically significant?

Essentially, what I'm asking is: for how long have entities - be them individuals, groups of people, businesses, states, etc. - or their peers been conscious of their potential impacts on history?
