I was reading about Object 279 and they claim that the soviets abandoned heavy tanks in the 1960s. Is this a fallacious claim, and if not what motivated the change in doctrine?

(x/posted r/askreddit) Discovered an native plant in the yard that apparently was used for thousands of years as a starch source but requires a great deal of processing before it won't kill you. How did ancient peoples not give up after the first couple of goes that killed someone to come up with the solutions to make deadly foods edible through complex processing? Like polk salad which has to be boiled several times or this plant, the coontie, which has to be leeched and fermented to remove cyanide

Zircon B is more definitive.. but there are apparently a few more than 10 companies that were selling supplies to the Germans during WWII.
Are there no restrictions to trade during war times? Or is it up to the Owner? I know a particular outfitter actually joined the Nazi party while supplying them with uniforms. Can Geneva conventions be carried out in court?

In the book Gates of Fire by Steven Pressfield around page 319/320 he talks about a group of eleven led by Dienekes to raid Xerxes tent. "Before Dienekes' party had climbed half a mile above Alpenoi, heavy pellets of rain began to strike." "while icy torrents sluiced upon him"
Now Wikipedia says the battle happened in August or September time of year.
I understand that the book is not 100% accurate but is he correct about the weather? Would it have been due to the elevation?
Also side question how does one pronounce Dienekes? Die-neck-es?

I remember my high school history textbook mentioning the site very briefly, but i didnt really think much of it until i started podcasting the Joe Rogan Experience. I was always very skeptical of the idea that hunter gatherers could build stonehenge, so thats one reason i am very open to the idea of "prehistoric" civilizations that were so old we have almost no evidence of their existence. Because come on, we went from sumerian city-states to space travel in only 5k years but it took 100-200k years just to figure out agriculture for the first time? I am now quite skeptical of the whole idea that c. 3500 BCE - 2017 CE is the first and only occurrence of "civilization". Im open minded both ways though, and im wondering what you fine folks think about all this.

I have a right wing friend trying to tell me that the us Constitution did not exclude African Americans, and to be perfectly honest the last time I read up on the Constitution was in grade school. I would love to hear more from professional and well cited sources. Thanks!

I like to collect uniforms from the US military and I have quite a few with last names and I think it would be interesting to research them, how do I do that? I see people on forums talking about who their uniforms belonged to and I think it would be cool to find out

I'm curious to see if a President has ever had to answer to the judicial branch where a constitutional showdown of power occurs.

This is really a bigger question than just these two documents. More generally how were books and documents written in the pre-typewriter age? I assume they used something to keep lines even and straight.

My grandfather was a Marine during WWII. He died when I was 2, and didn't share any stories about his time with any family members. My dad told me that my grandfather was in the Pacific, but that is about all that I know. I think he possibly drove one of the Marine amphibious vehicles.
I have his U.S. Marine Corps Identification Card with his name, hair color, eye color, weight, birth date, and his picture with what I believe was his service number beneath.
If someone can point me in the right direction, it would be greatly appreciated.

I just think it's very awesome that people made spears and knives from SPACE material and am sort of curious about the thoughts, culture, and process around it.

Back when I was a kid, I remember my teacher saying that it has not been found out yet, how they produced colors. Has it been found out yet, or is it still undiscovered?

I saw it on a documentary several years ago but have no been able to find it since. I've had several arguments with people about whether the UK would of been able to repel an invasion and due to these war games it was "proven" that the UK was, from my memory.
I would love to find this again, if anyone can help? Also, apologies about technically not fitting the rules (I think) so to help with the rules, if anyone wants to explain about this that would be great.

I'm trying to learn more about Liberian (both the country Liberia and the tribes living there) military forces from it's creation to WWI for the purposes of knowledge and creating an RTS game design document as close to real as humanly possible. But the problem is that because I live in Ukraine and don't have a credit card to pay for some books or articles (some of the books don't even have a digital version) so far I have found little of value about how Liberians operated pre-Civil wars.
Just so that I won't come here empty-handed, here are the books and articles that I found most useful:

Are there any other good sources in the internet about Liberia and their military? Or if there are none such - than about Sierra Leone or Ivory Coast, because I'm desperate.
