I've always been very interested in the logistical side of Arctic/Antarctic exploration, but I'm having trouble finding sources on how food/technology/etc was developed for the run. I'm particularly interested in the failings of said logistics.

With the recent shooting in Orlando, the perennial debate over gun ownership has begun again, revolving primarily around the perception of an epidemic of mass-shootings. I know most of these events are on the wrong side of this sub's 20-year rule, but I'm interested in learning more about how gun ownership in America has changed over the years. Guns have always been present in the American civilian population, but I imagine that the prevalence of ownership, the kinds of guns owned, and the culture surrounding them has changed drastically between, say, 1900 and 1996.

Has there been a general trend in the prevalence of gun ownership? When did semi-automatic pistols and rifles become commonplace for civilians to own, as opposed to, say, revolvers and bolt-action rifles? How have the arguments of gun-rights advocates changed over time (e.g. self-defense vs protection from the govt, etc)?

Obviously, I've got a lot of questions, and any information about the long-term history of this issue would be extremely helpful.

If Alexander Hamilton had run for president against Adams and Jefferson in 1796 (rather than supporting Pinckney), could he have won the election? Was he popular enough at that time to get elected? And if he had, who would have been his VP, Jefferson or Adams?

It is only because of Nazi Germany that General Franco came to power. Had he not had the help, they would have lost the Spanish Civil War. Didn't the Germans feel that they owed them?

I imagine there was a bit of both, but overall how did musicians feel about recording? Were they afraid that demand for live music would fall away, or were they more excited about being able to immortalize and sell their art?

Like first baptist or first Presbyterian. Are they the first churches in the area? What's the significance of it?

i'm assuming in reality most empires/kingdoms didn't have nice matching sets of armour (contrary to how they're depicted on TV), so in the middle of a chaotic battle how would you know whether someone was on your side or the enemy's side?

I recently listened to the Dan Carlin podcast about it, and though it is interesting, you can never be sure on his accuracy.

I'm reading Andrew Roberts Napoleon: A Life, and he writes that the Tsar was afraid Napoleon would change the Ducky of Warsaw into a kingdom, like Napoleon had previously done with the Electorate of Bavaria, Duchy of Wurttemberg, region of Westphalia earlier. Does the change into a kingdom mean anything other than a change in titles for the leader of the region?

Specifically in George RR Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire series it seems that from one end of Westeros to the other you can find some pub singing 'The bear and the maiden fair,' or 'The Dornishmans wife'. In let's say 14th century England or France, would there have been songs of similar universal popularity for the common people? What about for high society?

After the battle of The marne the germans dug down and trench warfare began. But with the introduction of land ships, stormtroops and sub machine did the way of fighting change? Eg it became more mobile.

Clarification: the Black Death during the Middle Ages

I'd imagine a lot of towns would be empty, this would include regional lords, bishops or maybe even the kings that were dead. What about the peasants (now mostly dead) that were needed for farming or other jobs? What was it like?

I've read about the eighteenth amendment, but I can't imagine what would push prohibition past simple federal law and into constitutional amendment. It just seems a bit severe.

I'm 23 years old and currently trying to become a history teacher.

I have always been interested in the history of war and I've been reading a lot about it. I have read a lot about the political and economic side of war. But I don't know anything about the tactics and strategies that where used. I'm looking to start learning about it but I have really no idea where to start.

Do you guys have any books you can recommend me. I'm mainly looking for books about the Romans and the first En second world war era as those are my favorite subjects but books about other ages are appreciated as well.
