I am writing a novel which I settled around the 14th century. To create a good picture of my cities, I'd like to know how high were some city walls in the 14th century - and could you give some examples? (Like, Londonds city wall was so-and-so high, Viennas city wall was so-and-so high etc.).

I just need a basic understanding of this terrorist group.

What were their goals and how did they achieve them (or if they failed)? Were they living in poverty or were they already wealthy?

Just any general information you have about them would be so greatly appreciated! :~)

It seems like such a one-sided trade. Losing all of the Balkan states and a bunch of money just to stop fighting. Did Germany feasibly have any chance of actually invading Russia? Even though it was in the spring I still don't think Germany would of been able to. Did Russia accept it because they wanted to focus on the civil war?

Some years ago a friend of mine told me that his professor stated that Sparta had to protect itself from other greek countries, and that's the reason why we normally associate Sparta with militarism, althrough we usually see it as an offensive force rather than a defensive one. How true is that?

I understand a little about the post-war economic miracle and MacArthur's reforms etc, but what were the factors that allowed Japan in the span of only a few decades to go from being a country that had been thoroughly destroyed by war to having the second largest economy in the world?

How similar and different are the two civs?

This is really naive and amateurish, but I was wondering what would happen during the nights between medieval/crusader battles. Did both sides cease temporarily? Did they fight endlessly?

I was wondering for authenticity.

I'm not sure if I'm asking this right, but what I mean is that I was thinking about my parents, grandparents, great-grandparents, etc. and I realized that beyond my grandmother's grandmother, I really have no idea who came before that...so I'm wondering what person/family alive today would be able to more or less accurately trace their lineage back the farthest, and if that is not known, what cultures/countries/families would be the likely contenders? I asked this question on AskReddit a while ago, but all I got was people arguing about the Bible...my curiosity is burning, and I was hoping someone here could help.

I mean to ask, the machines that played such an important role in the modernisation of Europe are so massive and complex, when and how did we make them to begin with?

I have a degree in agriculture, but never had to take a specific history of agriculture or had any reading that specifically addressed the subject. I don't quite have a certain era of time I am looking for, I'm just looking for interesting books on how agriculture developed throughout history, different styles of different peoples, how it affected cultures through time, etc.

Why were there only a few Latin American countries to develop a significant manufacturing sector in the 1920s?

If that is too broad of a question, I'd be the most interested in the time period from the Dark Ages to the Renaissance (if I'm recalling my history correctly).

Please pardon my ignorance in any part of the question. I'm not even sure I'm asking the correct question in this post.

The reason for the question is I'm trying to write some literature that involves large cities with enclosed by walls, but not much access to land or trade beyond their walls. This might sound rather impossible, but... try to bear with me. Ignoring those obvious problems, what might people be trying to grow in their gardens and small farmlands?
