I am looking for a version that is considered good enough to use for academic purposes. Also, if anyone could comment on the pros and cons of the translation, or the translation style, that'd be great.

So we all see castles and palaces etc in contemporary TV shows and movies like Game of Thrones for example. However, I always feel we are missing a lot of what these structures would have looked like when they were built and then used. Were they painted? Was there a great deal more wood? What are the wrong impressions we have?

I'm going to Prague and Vienna in a couple months and I know both cities ooze history and culture (especially from the Hapsburg period).

I'd love to read up on that period relating to those cities so that when I go there, I'd have a better understanding of all the sights I will check out.

If you ever-so-helpful historians could recommend me some general history books that would enlighten me of that period/location in history, it'd be amazing.

I was recently watching the documentary World War II in Colour and I started to wonder how all the film was taken for the war. Did some soldiers have cameras or were they all journalists? Wouldn't the military of each country not want journalists running around on the front lines and getting in the way?

Watching a show on the Smithsonian Channel right now about the Stonehenge civilization where they found that the people were really quite advanced, even performing successful surgeries on the skull. I've heard of a lot of instances like this, where we only now discover that they knew of something in the past that our current people didn't know until much later on. How could we have just forgotten so many of these things? How did they develop it so much sooner than us?

It would be faster and they wouldn't have war with England.

I know the British had colonies in the Pacific such as Singapore, and the USSR took Manchuria and Korea, but how in involved were British and Soviet forces in the Pacific?

Hey all. I've always been a big history nerd for ancient Greece and, like many others, I find the Spartans fascinating. I've read several times that when a Spartan child was born, he or she would be inspected for any disabilities that would make the child unable to contribute towards Sparta. If a disability was found, the child would be left to die. I was wondering if this has had an effect on modern day descendants of Spartans today. Do the people in modern day Sparta suffer from fewer ailments as a result, since genetic disabilities would not have been allowed to be past on? Thank you!

I can think of the clear example of British imperialism in India in the 19th and 20th century but what would you say a clear example that proves this is?
