SPOILERS FOR THE TV SHOW "MANHATTAN" FOLLOW

I've been watching the TV series Manhattan (great show check it out). While I know for sure it's not the most historically accurate show I still love it but I wanted to know if one of the plot lines in the show was based on anything.

So near the middle of season 2 set in early to mid 1945 two British scientists working on the Manhattan project collude to steal atomic secrets "for King and Country". Now spies, Nazi and Russian espionage etc have all been big aspects of the show so far but this was the first I had ever heard of this sort of thing. I had just assumed that all atomic information was shared between the British and the Americans.

Was this fabricated for the show, or did the British really attempt to steal atomic secrets from the US. To follow up, did the British do anything like this at all during the war IE espionage and counter espionage in relation the US or were they too firm of Allies for that to be needed?

Specifically, if a marriage was used as part of a peace treaty and that peace is broken and they go to war, what happens to the marriage? Is it annulled? Is one of them a prisoner of war? What if they have children? I'm specifically thinking of Western European nobility, but the more information the merrier!

As an example, during WW2 when Germany first invaded Poland, there is footage of Polish Cavalry charging German tanks, only to be slaughtered moments after as if they were completely unaware as to what they were up against.

Are there any parts of it which are still the law of the land, and which haven't been superseded?

Is this the oldest law still in existence?

I know that the Soviet Union were not participating in the Security Council affairs at the time, but I have read conflicting reports on Stalin's intentions towards American participation. Some of them that I read state that he deliberately boycotted it to allow the U.N.S.C. to draft a resolution to enter the Korean War, but other state that the U.S. took advantage of the boycott to draft the resolution against Stalin's wishes/intentions. Which one is more likely?

We've always heard that it was a small percentage. How small are we talking? Did Germany do regular census like the U.S.?

At its prime, the Ottomans owned a large part of the Balkans, including what is today Greece, Romania, Serbia and Albania. However, only Albania, which is the furthest of all these countries, has most of its population subscribing to the Islamic faith. What are the reasons behind this phenomenon?

What engaging, well-written books on Russian history come to mind? The period could be 1000-present, 1500-present, 1800-present or 1900-present. Thanks!

As I understood it Africans populated Africa, followed the coast of the Indian Ocean and populated it all the way down to Australia and its surrounding islands, and were pretty much left alone. Somewhere in the Middle East the Arabs formed. They took over the Northern Africa and Saudi Arabic island, moved down to India and settled there aswell. From somewhere that I don't know the Asians spawned. Took over all of Eastern Asia and eastern Russia, migrated to America and became Native American. The Arabs migrated to Europe and became white people, and settled in all of Europe.

This is what I think happened with my basic understanding of history. This would explain most ethnicities and why say aboriginals looked more like Africans and not Asian like its northern neighbors.

I am not at all sure with the time periods of these happenings and I would like to get some sources and corrections of my understanding, and also time periods. Thank you so much in before hand!

I've been trying to figure out why the US, the "champion of freedom" against the oppressive communist regime, would go out and overthrow democratically elected governments only to install military dictatorships.

The obvious (and probably official) answer would be because those governments were "too friendly" to communists or their ideology, and I can see how that makes sense, but I think that it was first and foremost America's economic interests that got the US involved, not ideology. Guatemala and Iran seem like prime examples of this. In both cases it wasn't because there was an immediate threat of communist takeover, but that the countries in question sought economic independence from American (and British) corporate interests.

That being said I can still see how that can be tied back to preventing the spread of communism, as economic prosperity was central in America's long-term plan to outlast the Soviet Union and damage their rhetoric, which portrayed capitalist governments as shaky and decrepit.

Anyone have a perspective that can shed light on this? It all just seems so circular to me.

Was it ever used as a derogatory term specifically towards the Germanic peoples? (I am aware that the word was used for other peoples as well)

What were the differences and similarities, if any, between the Roman and Greek usage of the word?

Currently working on a hobby project and I have a couple questions about the deployment of the Hitlerjugend in 1945.

To start, what sort of uniforms would they be wearing? Would this be a situation similar to the Volksturm where they are wearing basically any discards that they managed to get there hands on, or did they actually have their own gear?

How accurate is the portrayal of the group in the movie 'Downfall' (Der Untergang - 2004) Again, notably in terms of there equipment and appearance?

What size/organization would they be operating in during the battle of Berlin? Who did they fall under?

Lastly, would they have been mixed with and possibly lead by adults? Perhaps members of the Heer or Volksturm?

I was looking at google maps today and noticed that Uzbekistan has several exclaves in Kyrgyzstan. Furthermore the border seems to be really oddly defined, it doesn't follow any natural borders as far as I can see.

Article 8 of the Treaty of Paris of 1783 gave British subjects and Americans access to the Mississippi River. Was this formally repealed in any other treaty or official document?

The German nuclear weapon project started 3 years before the Manhattan Project (according to Wikipedia) and we're never taught about them working on one. How close were they to a nuclear weapon? What type of "weapon" were they working on, a nuclear bomb? What stopped them from being successful?

I'm thinking bounding (2 men shoot, 1 man moves) and flanking (You guys stay here and keep their heads down, we'll go around the right) attacks would work similarly. What am I missing?

They had similar rates of fire, good range, good penetration.
