What was different between the colonization as done by the Spaniards and the English (also French)? Are there also good sources on the history of the development of all these countries as independent nations? Why are the US and Canada so far ahead while the Spanish speaking nations are so far behind and in a more or less similar place? Was it catholicism? Was it the difference in political system between Spain and England? What happened to Belize and Guyana?

When/what was the earliest recorded war?

I know very little about Babylonian History and would like to have a grasp on it. I want to know about Nebuchanezzer primarily but a general history could be interesting.

Asking this because I learned about it through Game Theory and found that only a portion of people know about the war. It seemed to me that the US Education system in hiding something from their history that they won't share to kids.

There was an interesting discussion just under a week ago on this sub about early and less mainstream forms of Christianity in the Roman era and Middle Ages, and it made me think of something.
I know Cathars believed that the world was created by the God of the Old Testament, who they considered evil (they thought the God of the New Testament was the true God) and the aim of Catharism, they believed, was to escape the material world. But what did Cathars think of other plants and animals?

I always thought it was strange, especially with archers. Effectively you only fire as fast as the slowest person. I can understand holding the first shot to stop sacred soldiers wasting a shot but after that it seems limiting.

Odd question, I know but I was trying to read up on various histories of plants and religion and mushrooms were treated vastly differently in different places. They separated them into mycophilic and mycophobic cultures but even in mycophilic cultures, I couldn't find any specific member of a pantheon that was known for them. It was mostly harvest or hunting gods and not really foraging.

I'm pretty curious with this, say after the Anschluss or the takeover of Czechoslovakia or after the various invasions in 1940s. What happened to the heaps of gold reserves and other financial assets those countries have? Did they just get 'acquired' by Germany during the occupation process?

Lastly if they did get acquired, how significant were the amount?

A cursory look at Medieval Jewish history shows no examples of rebellions, Jewish lords, proposed Jewish homelands, or any other relationship between European Jews and secular power. What kept them from even considering it?

I was looking at google maps and I came across the Aral Sea. Did no one ever think, "draining this sea might not be the best idea?"

Over the last 20 years we've heard a great deal of American involvement in the Indian subcontinent (mostly in the Af-Pak region), but I've noticed that we know very little about KGB activities in the sub-continent despite there being a great presence of Leftist and socialist political parties in the region who were sympathetic to the Soviet Union.

I've been reading up on the Manhattan Project and something really confuses me. It seems the initially focus was on a gun design but due to the issues creating pure Pu-239 they switched to implosion. However Little Boy was a gun design that used Uranium instead of Plutonium.

So what I don't understand is this: if the idea was to create a working nuclear weapon as soon as possible to use in the war why was so much emphasis put on creating a Plutonium implosion weapon when they had a working Uranium gun type? Also, why did they not test a Uranium gun weapon for Trinity before they used it on Hiroshima to see if it even worked?
