I imagine this would differ greatly from region to region, or even from plantation to plantation within the same region. Is there any evidence of rituals or ceremonies performed by slaves upon the death of another slave? Do we know how slaves experienced grief for slaves who had died, and are there any known cases of slaves being punished for grieving? What happened to the body of a dead slave--would it be buried, cremated, or somehow otherwise disposed of?

I would like to learn about World War 2, but am afraid of finding biased information during research, since each country would have it's own views and opinions on past events, especially those who were affected adversely by such events. How can I research history while avoiding biased information?

A funny thought occurred to me recently:

I know it's a broad questions but I'm curious to know about their culture, have been watching a lot of Hercules and ancient Greek movies.

I am mostly asking about what would be called a "novus homo", a man who didn't have the good fortune to have some famous ancestors. would he have to be a lawyer? A soldier? A public servant? Where there any requirements? I am guessing you had at least to be a Roman citizen, but was there anything else?

I cam looking for information on those two centuries mostly on war fare and daily life. Surrounding the German empire at that time.

I am interested in learning about the history of the abolitionist movement -- from the grassroots movements up through the abolishing of slavery as a U.S. government approved institution. What are some of the higher quality books or readings I can look to on this subject?

I would like to learn more about the way ancient nations fought, especially (but not restricted to) about Romans, mongols, zulus and Egyptians, I'm looking preferably for videos (as I can see formations and visualize the fight), so any documentaries/YouTube channels are welcome, podcasts that talk of this are very welcome as well. I don't mind books either, but free platforms are better. I'm looking for documentaries of battles and wars mostly, but the theory of how different factions fought, or "history-fiction" are more than welcome as well

Possibly a bit of an odd one.

I read an article today about a woman who ran the London marathon this year using no sanitary protection. What started out as a concern of comfort became, for her, a demonstration of solidarity of with women with no access to feminine products.

It got me thinking, what did women in the 1800s do about this, and other aspects of personal care which women today have easy access to solutions for?

I've tried online and can't find much/much that seems trustworthy. I was wondering about things like

• periods; how did they alleviate the symptoms (pain, bloating when wearing restrictive corsets etc), how did they keep themselves (and their clothes) clean? Victorian hygiene habits are not like ours, how did they adapt these during that time?

• pregnancy; by extension of the above, before modern solutions were available how did they know when their babies would be due? What did they know of the process and such? I recall reading about an American woman's diary which was found and it had marks which basically indicated against the days she was intimate with her husband and when her periods were so she could track when she was pregnant and a rough idea of when conception took place. Did Victorian women do something similar?

• contraception; I know larger families were common, but for those who no longer wanted to expand the family, what options were there, if any, beyond abstinence?

• body hair maintenance/removal; I'm assuming they didn't have shaving products like men would have, did they practice sugar waxing like in egypt or a variant of it? Was it considered attractive or an expectation of a mans that your wife would have hair on her underarms/legs? Both are pretty taboo now, was this the case then?

Any further details gratefully appreciated of course, I'm just curious as to how the day to day lives of women in the 1800s would have been to now without the modern conveniences and technologies we have.
