How common were decimations in a Roman legion?

As a veteran myself I can't fathom how devastating that would be to morale not to mention the anger and hatred for the general ordering it, did any units ever refuse to commit a decimation?

How do we know how to pronounce the names of pharaohs and other ancient Egyptian things?

If the Rosetta Stone taught us how to translate the language of Ancient Egypt (hieroglyphics, I'm pretty sure), it wouldn't teach us how to pronounce names like Tutenkhamen or Nefertiti.

Are Hadiths unique among archival studies? Do we have comparable cases of people recording, and later fabricating the smallest sayings of a single figure like Muhammad? How does historical analysis of the early Islamic Empire and Muhammad as an individual differ from other fields because of this?

Surely the nature of authentic hadith is weird in a historiographical sense, right? One person who is having most mildly significant sayings and actions recorded, to varying degrees of believability, all in the seventh century. Not only that, but their religious nature must influence interpretation. How are hadiths treated as a resource, and how unique are they in the patterns of historical record?

How did USSR/USA tell difference between missile/space mission?

Both superpowers basically used guided missiles with a manned capsule on top rather than a war head. How did they tell the difference between an ICBM vs. a manned space launch? I'd assume they would have some communication with the other side, but I'm sure they'd take it with a grain of salt... I mean "Yup, it's a space launch. hee hee" and have it be a nuclear missile headed for Moscow doesn't sound too far fetched after hearing some of the other things they considered.

Just curious after seeing a Gemini rocket taking off in /r/space.

Is Alberto Giacometti really the originator of the so-called "4am meme"? Is there even a "4am meme"?

In this TED talk, the claim is made that Alberto Giacometti made a piece "The Palace at Four in the Morning" in 1932, kicking off a "meme" of 4am being a time of inauspicious activity. This claim doesn't really ring true, and the whole talk feels like someone looking for a pattern where there isn't one. Any help is appreciated.
