I've heard that Northern India was populated by migrations coming out of Central Asia. But where and how did the South Indian population come to be?

There are some on r/India who believe that Dravidians never existed, but were merely tribal lineages who broke away from the Aryan migrations. But how then would one explain the completely distinct Dravidian language family?

Is there evidence in Vedic texts or otherwise that points to a separate Dravidian population?

Was there a gradual period of change under Allied occupation? What about the Soviet sector?

Was King admired by officials in the U.S.S.R. or were his non-violent protests considered a threat? Was he actually actively courted by their agents or representatives? I know King was suspected of being a communist (in part because he had socialists in his social circle) so did any foreign powers reinforce these beliefs intentionally or otherwise?

I find myself very interested in the time period of 336 BCE (Conquests of Alexander), through to 70 CE (Siege of Jerusalem), with a primary focus on Jerusalem, Judaism and the rise of Christianity.

I'm starting to compile a reading list, and I thought I would ask around here for help. I'm mostly interested in primary sources, but I'm very welcome to any other great reads covering these topics:

• Conquests of Alexander the Great
• Ptolemaic Kingdom
• Seleucid Empire
• Hasmonean dynasty
• Herodian dynasty
• Roman Civil War - Rise of Roman Empire (Pompeii, Julius Caeser, Mark Antony, Octavius)
• Roman Emperor's during this period (Octavius, Tiberius, Caligula, Claudius, Nero, Four Emperor's + Flavian)
• Christianity: Jesus, Paul, Peter, James
• Josephus and Jewish Civil War
• Jewish-Roman War and Siege of Jerusalem

I know this is a pretty large period, but I would be very grateful to anyone who can lead me in the right direction in furthering my knowledge of this period.

If I understand right, when you read on Rommel, you tend to find much information epitomizing him as a true gentleman.

From his treatment of POW's to his approach on leadership, there are tales where he supposedly believed that one should remain civilized when engaging in an activity as barbaric as War can be (such as providing an overextended American Triage Center supplies so they could tend the wounded).

How true is this? I once read somewhere that his wife had a part in his biography and, although it may not necessarily be the case, his reputation lends itself for possible historical revisionism.

I've realized that all of my history classes have stopped at the gulf war, which we never really get into. This question applies further, like, how long after WW2 did that era start being taught to youth? Is there a standard gap of years?

Would, say, the average soldier in the British Empire know about the highly complicated political machinations and alliances that led to war in Europe? Have there been any studies analyzing why individual men signed up to fight vs. the reasons why the Great Powers went to war?

At the battle of Gaugamela the Macedonians were highly outnumbered and experienced generals such as Parmenion asked Alexander to withdraw. Several years later the still unbeaten Macedonians say they will not fight despite facing much higher odds at Gaugamela. What encouraged them to fight against the Persians and what changed to refuse continuing into India?

I'm assuming political lobbying has been going on forever.

Just curious, the heavy does of religous influence in western-civ history makes it seem like when Jesus died, nothing else was going on. Like it was a vacuum. What else was happening around this time?
