Hi everyone, I was watching a war movie recently and was wondering how they assigned the weapons each soldier carried. I see most had an M1 Garand, some had a Thompson, others a BAR, carbines, Grease Gun, etc. How were they assigned?

I have to right an essay in my European History Class that compares and contrasts the views of historians at the time of an event and historians now. I tried scouring google, but it seems I do not have the internet finesse to find helpful primary sources that are in English. Specifically, I would like to know if the people of the time knew that the war was about more than religion, and a primary source to back it up, but any other information on the subject would be appreciated.

So I just saw the movie The Admiral: Roaring Currents (2014) and while the basic battle seems reasonably accurate I wonder about the technicalities. Did the Japanese not have any cannon ? Did the Koreans not have any guns ? Was the ramming bit at the end technically feasible ? What do we know about the ships and armaments used by both sides ?

Every few months, it seems, there's a new (mostly internet-spread) boycott campaign against a particular US state - most recently Indiana over its "religious freedom" legislation.

During the fifties and sixties, I understand that there were many targeted boycotts against segregated institutions like Woolworths lunch counters or public transportation systems. But were there any campaigns to boycott entire states where segregation was the law? Were southern-based companies (like Coca-Cola) boycotted, and did entertainers, sports teams, etc. stay out of segregated states?

With all the talk about the Armenian genocide recently, and criticism of the Turkish government, has the U.S. ever admitted it's own genocides?

I'm interested in the economic and financial histories of national debt, warfare, kingdom/empire building, alliances, etc. I'm partial to history before WWII.

Is there any title that I should look for?
