Why did the Germans retreat at Marne in 1914.

It seemed to be some sort of staff decision, with a lower officer motoring around hearing horror stories. Could they hold out a little longer?

What sort of influence did Rasputin really have on Nicholas II's family prior to WWI and the Bolshevik Resolution?

I've heard he was a mysterious man with quite the beard, quite the sexual appetite, and quite the resistance to... well, dying in general. What was it that he really accomplished by having connections with the last royal family in Russia?

EDIT: Oh my goodness, Revolution... REVolution. I swear...

Hammurabi Moses connection?

I recently read there's some theories that Moses is or got his laws from Hammurabi.

I've been leading a few things of which Moses, Solomon, and David may not be historical figures (sounds like a Christ myth debate a few centuries before Christ) but tribes.

Anyways, any books/evidence to support this connection?

What are some common terms of surrender for towns and/or fortresses in the Thirty Years War?

And considering how brutal the war was, how confident could the people surrendering be about that the terms would be kept, instead of the besieging army now just slaughtering everyone?

How did the Roman Empire supply their army during a long campaign?

I would assume that some food could be bought or looted, but a army needs weapons (of good quality), missiles, horses, armor and soldiers to replace losses etc. I assume that all of this had to be shipped from some central location (I assume that the best weapons and such were made in Italy and other central Roman provinces), which would entail large supply lines if a army was fighting in Britain or Germania. So do we know how supplies were shipped to the legions in the field? Also, do we know how the Roman Army kept track of what supplies they needed, so that they could order replacements, and how they ordered supplies?

The Virgin birth notwithstanding, I'm curious as to what kind of treatment someone like Jesus would have grown up with in a small community having been conceived out of wedlock.

How many workers died while building the national highway system?

Was talking to my buddy, who's an iron worker, about how much safer his and other construction industries have gotten in the last 100 years, and the national highway system came up. Neither of us could think of ever hearing a number, and both Google and searching Reddit comes up empty. Any one of you have any sources on this or anything?

Did Julius Caesar really defeated 200 000 Gauls with his 40 000 in the battle of Alesia or did he exaggerate?

This just seems unlikely that the Gauls would be able to even maintain and feed an army that size. It's the size of Napoleon's Grande Armee.

What caused the stock market crash of '29, and how did that snowball into worldwide depression?

I'm curious which major events happened along the road from America having a stable stock market, to the world having a devastatingly crippled economy. Was this just a bizarre butterfly effect, or a maybe a growing domino effect?
What might the average person have seen changing around them?

I hope this doesn't come across as an economics question! I'm extremely interested to know what happened!
