Why didn't Africa develop and expand the way Europe, and to a lesser extent Asia did?

It is a question I have always wondered, I realise there is no right or wrong answer but "colonialism" doesn't fully explain it. With the exception of North Africa, Africa as a whole wasn't fully colonised until the 1800s, so why didn't Africans do what Europeans done and attempt to expand?

What was the impact of Reagan's presidency on the homeless population in the United States?

I've heard a few people bring up the claim that Reagan's presidency brought about a massive influx of the mentally ill onto the streets of the US, since they were ejected from institutions due to budget cuts. Is this true?

Good Holocaust books dealing with holocaust denial?

I understand that I could read the histories in the book list, but Ideally I would like to read something that specifically targets the common arguments made by deniers, and has a focus on explaining what the sources and the like are. If only because I encounter a couple deniers on various things and it would be easier for me to engage with them if I had a more targeted work I could refer to rather than just a history of it.

Chimpanzee/human wrestling in Hong Kong

I recently met a man who grew up in Hong Kong in the 1950s and said that he often went to chimpanzee/human wrestling matches as a form of entertainment during his childhood and teenage years. I tried to google, but couldn't find much beyond youtube videos of individuals wrestling chimpanzees. Was chimpanzee/human wrestling a common form of entertainment in Hong Kong? What about other areas? Any added details regarding prices, usual outcomes, etc would also be appreciated.

A Civil War question regarding Lee's decision to invade the North.

Hi,

My university is planning a trip to Gettysburg this weekend to study the history and influence of the environment on military strategy. I signed up last minute because I feel I don't know enough about the Civil War, and it turns out I must give a five minute presentation addressing the following:

Should President Davis authorize Lee’s plan to invade the north?

  • Consider both military and non-military considerations

  • How do developments out west influence this decision?

I am not looking for anyone to do the work for me, but are there any places I should look at to answer this question? I know Lee was low on supplies, but that is about it. I appreciate any guidance you might have. Thanks!

Was told a "Fact", that Dublin is the oldest European capital that never been sack/leveled in war, is it true?

The guy that told me this usually talks a load of rubbish, but with the exception of the 1916 rising wrecking the city center I can't think of any other time that Dublin has come under military fire.
