I have a friend who refuses to believe that the various documentaries about the life of Indiana Jones are factual. How do I convince him otherwise?

He's a bit of a conspiracy theorist who insists not only that said documentaries are rife with inaccuracies, but that Jones himself never even existed. Of course this is patently absurd, but how do I convince him otherwise? People like him can be difficult to reason with, but on an important subject like this I think Dr. Jones deserves to be recognized by all for his achievements.

Why did Sally choose to sell Seashells in a saturated marketplace instead of somewhere with actual demand?

We all know that Sally was, for lack of a better word, an idiot for selling seashells at the seashore of all places. Do you think if she had made better choices in life that she may have been a more successful business woman? I mean her family was certainly well off and she had quite the lucrative business idea (if the current puka shell necklace trend is any indication) so why didnt she just set up shop as a fashion designer? She was on the cutting edge of what could have been the precursor to the iPhone in terms of "the next cool thing" and would have certainly had the base cash necessary to start advertising and getting the ground floor ready.

Was Aegon the Conqueror's subjugation of Westeros beneficial or harmful in the long run?

On the one hand, Aegon crushed the seven kings and managed to unify an entire continent. On the other, he created an absolute monarchy, and a great many people died during his invasion. Plus, some scholars have questioned how viable his kingdom was in the long run.

I've heard partisan accounts from all sides; any recommendations of primary sources would be great!

Do the Dothraki really deserve their reputation for cruelty?

After recently reading Archmaester Marwyn's work on the Dothraki, I wonder why they are always depicted as savage conquerors. Khal Temmo and Drogo both fostered a spread of trade across the Dothraki sea, and allowed their subjects to live in peace across the realm. Their raids against Slaver's Bay also dramatically reduced the number of slaves traded there.

In his tome, Marwyn specifically notes the low crime rate against civilians under Drogo's Khalasar, noting that, "Murder attempts were as useless as nipples on a breastplate,". This is not even mentioning Drogo's allowance of freedom of religion, best demonstrated by his Valyrian wife, who still kept the Seven.

Thoughts?

Did the idea of "commander's intent" in military doctrine begin with Robb Stark's blundering lack of communication with Edmure Tully, or did it predate Ruby Ford?

Also, notable Meereenese military theorist Jarl von Clausewhips would call the idea of a "military victory but political loss" to be a ridiculous contradiction in terms as military and political aims can't be looked at separately. Does this idea pretty much negate any positive analysis of Stark's campaign?

Why did Grand Admiral Thrawn ultimately fail to restore the Galactic Empire?

Just what the title says. Grand Admiral Thrawn was a brilliant strategist and tactician. Beginning in AY (After Yavin) 4 he managed to unite the remnants of the Empire under his leadership and launched a campaign to crush the still fragile New Republic.

Despite stunning successes, his campaign ultimately failed, and Thrawn died under circumstances that remain mysterious. What happened? How did he come so close to victory and yet lose? And is there any truth to the rumors that he was assassinated by his Noghri bodyguard?
