More specifically, how much of a difference was there in the economics of running a "plantation" with sharecropping vs. a plantation with slaves.

Sorry, meant to ask if high rates of Maternal death in childbirth skewed this.

I realize the temporality of the show is a mess (a comedy attempting to comment on Vietnam via Korea) - but, as I understand it, the show was very controversial, and I assume that would have put significant pressure on them to maintain some grounding in reality.
What did the show get right about Korea?

I'm doing a photo project recreating the tale of the bamboo cutter (aka Kaguya-hime).
I was wondering if you guys would know or be able to provide some insight regarding wardrobe, make up, and hair of that time for both court ladies and regular women.
Visual resources would be fantastic!
(thanks in advance)

I'm researching genealogy, and I'm new to this subreddit, so if this is the wrong place to post please guide me to the right one.
My great-great grandmother had a marriage from 1908-1918. She was 15 at the time of marriage, he was 38, and they had a child in 1910. I recently found their divorce record. The complainant was listed as the husband (which is the only 'husband' mark on the list, the rest were all wives) and the reason for divorce was 'extreme cruelty'. (Other reasons were 'non-support', 'desertion', 'imprisonment', and several more of 'extreme cruelty'.)
Could someone help explain the context of a divorce at the time? I know it must have been rare, especially for the husband to seek. Does 'extreme cruelty' mean my great-grandmother was abusive, or perhaps that she was having an affair? (She did remarry six years later.) Were the options to select for reason for divorce limited? What were the social implications at the time?
Thank you!
[Edit] Location was Jackson, MI.

Were Sarah and Mary discouraged, as opposed to Germanic names?

As someone who grew up in the Muslim world, I was constantly told that before Islam the condition of women in Arabia at that time was horrendous and Islam as a religion basically for the first time gave woman rights in property. Muslims for example insist that female children were buried as soon as they were born out of shame. How true is that? Also, it could not have been widely practiced as there were still quite a few women around at the time.

I was recently pondering why exactly do the Jewish and Islamic peoples ban pork? Was thinking that it was probably tied to public health rather than someone just hell bent on preventing people from enjoying pork and shellfish.

Did the Russian Empire/Soviet Union ever attempt to make outer Manchuria and modern day Kazakhstan ethnically Slav/Russian? Was it ever done on the same level as the Russification campaigns in Ukraine?

To my knowledge I know they had ersatz tobacco and coffee near the end of the war and Hitler had anti smoking campaigns. Was the country capable of growing their own? Did they rely on countries like Turkey?

I was watching the film and throughout he states he wishes to go to war with them. I understand that there were some tensions at the time but why would he be so gung ho about extending the war?

I hope this is the appropriate group to ask this question: What's a good introduction to read on the Civil War? I want to read more on the Civil War this year. I would also like to know what are some of your favorite works too. Thank you!

I'm not trying to downplay the complexity and advancement of Native American tribal life in North America. But was there any reason that massive empires and city states and the like didn't form? Was it simply an issue of terrain or lack of population or was it something else?

r/askhistorians seems like the most appropriate place for this post, but if I am wrong I would certainly appreciate the direction to the proper sub.
I have been doing some light genealogy, and have stumbled upon an old photo that I have no references for.
Can you help me identify who this is? What kind of uniform is he wearing?
Here is the FRONT Here is the BACK
The writing on the back isn't any help to me, so even if a basic time frame can be gathered from the uniform I would appreciate it.

I left the Marine Corps, and I'm taking a history class. This is my first time writing since returning to the civilian world, and my book review requires a bibliographic citation. Is there a preferred format for this? Should I cite each page that I use a quote from, and do I make a separate entry on the bibliography for each quote?
Sorry if this isn't the right place for this, there isn't an "askteachers" subreddit. My professor expects everyone to just know how to do this, the last time I made a bibliography was in 2003 so I'm kinda lost in the sauce.
