I want to read this book and went to Amazon and saw there are multiple publications of it, some with very bad reviews. In the interest of reading a proper version, can anyone recommend a specific version I should look for?

So, I am watching Son if Liberty, and I noticed that some of the characters are wearing what looks like a silk bag on the back of their head. I'm assuming that they have what we would call a ponytail in there. Why is this?
I tried googling it, but I guess I didn't know how to word it. You don't see "colonist" and "ponytail" in the same sentence often.

Nothing I've ever studied about early American History seems to mention this, but it seems like it would have a fairly large impact.

I have a report for a class and have to present on Socrates. My knowledge of him consists of high school history, and Bill and Ted's Excellent adventure. Looking for a direction to start looking in, and I love the responses here.

I'm new to history and taking an interest in ancient and medieval warfare and politics. Rome, Greece and the Mongols are a few I've taken some time to get into.
I've heard the Mongols had a confrontation with the Japanese, but I'm entirely ignorant of the subject.
I'm look for good reading material, in English, on the history of the Japanese politic systems and confrontations.
Thank you, and I apologize if this is not the place for this question.

Also, what was the first team that had a mascot? Does any European teams? Like Shamrock Rovers in the Airtricity league? Does that count?

Between 1914 and 1918, surely humanity was doing more than just killing each other.

My American History professor at my university has always said that he loathes alternate histories. He usually says this when someone asks a "what if...?" question. I read an article by Time about a show based off of an alternative history novel. While I have my own personal opinions about them, I was wondering if there were any others out there that might think that they're worth something.
The link below is the link to the article.

I always thought they were the same thing with different names, but it sounds like there is some debate to whether these were two different things entirely. In my last History class in college the Professor mentioned how there could be two sides to this subject.
I hear that they spread differently and also have different death totals, but the symptoms were alike? Where do Historians fall on this subject?

In school today we were told that was only one religion in Central Europe and that it was Catholicism in the medieval times (before the reformation). I challenged her saying that can't possibly be true. If anybody can provide an answer that would be great.

If you ask Google, "How many Jews died during the Holocaust?" the first answer that will come up is the commonly heard number, "6 million".
If you ask Google, "How many Jews actually died during the Holocaust?" and now quite a few new number come up. "2 million" is the first result. Click on any of the links and the number goes as low as 1.4 million.
So where did this 6 million number come from, and what is the real answer?

I know that most, if not all United States Military vehicles, you just press a button to start them. When did this begin? Were they like this during WW2?

Such as the two angels in the Allegory for Good Government.
Was this because of the Greco-Roman muses?

I've tried to look this up on the internet, apparently there were several names that came up as potential informers. Is there a number one suspect ?

Wikipedia says in the history of mummy brown that it used to involve the ground-up remains of Egyptian mummies. How did this get started and how prevalent was it? Were people so desperate for new paint colours that they just ground up anything they could think of?
Maybe even more strangely, the Wikipedia article says artists stopped using the colour in the 19th century once they found out what it was. Did artists really not know what was in "mummy brown" for 200 years?

Vladivostok seems to be very close to Japan, I'm guessing within bomber or amphibious landing range. I know Russia was not at war with Japan until the end of the war, but this seems like too big an advantage to give up for diplomatic reasons.
