On this version http://pinkmonkey.com/dl/library1/sense.pdf on page 41 (the very first page of the Appendix) Paine mentions "the king's speech made its appearance in this city." I've just read and taken notes on the entirety of "Common Sense," and I want to look into the king's response to see how that went, so which speech is Paine referring to specifically?
Thank you!

(Or perhaps Sipahis, though I guess those are closer to feudal knights).

I know about the stock market crash of 1929, but I was wondering if there were anymore reasons, as to why there was the depression.

I know that the Japanese attacked the US because we stopped supplying oil to them, but its occurred to me that Russia has oil, something I've been told Hitler wanted very much. Why didn't the Japanese, who already had a presence on continent, join the Germans in a pincer-like assault of Russia to see ure the oil that the USSR had? Wouldn't this have been a far more feasible strategy than attacking the US?

Could an American citizen have just gone to visit Moscow and see the sights? Could a Muscovite have decided to spend his winter in Florida?

I was reading the funeral oration of Pericles and came across this line "The tribute of deeds has been paid in part; for the dead have them in deeds, and it remains only that their children should be maintained at the public charge until they are grown up". How exactly would have this been done? Was there some institution for caring for these and who exactly would have done it? Would have other Greek states such as Sparta or Corinth have had a similar service?

I've heard from numerous sources that Eleanor and her retainers rode bare breasted while on march to the crusades. It was mentioned in Lion In Winter, it's mentioned on wikipedia, but there are no direct citations that refer to it, specifically. Preferably, are there anything close to primary sources that either substantiate or refute these claims?

Apologies if book recommendation-type submissions are prohibited, but I read nothing explicitly doing so.
I'm curious about whether books exist documenting rebellion(s). I just finished the TV series Spartacus and delighted in reading about the Third Servile War afterwards. I am very interested in anarchist rebellions, and recently heard the country in which I live - Ireland - described as one of rebellion (county Cork, specifically). About these three, - slave, anarchist and Irish rebellion(s) - I would love to learn more, as I would about all rebellion(s). Please, therefore, recommend me those books documenting them with which you are familiar.
Again, if submissions of this nature do not belong, please suggest an alternative! Thanks in advance.

I've seen this question (in one form or another) has been asked a few times here, here, here, here, here, here, and here, however, either the questions haven't been answered at all or deal mainly with Kutuzov.
I know this is a big question (and book) and I don't expect one person to be able to answer all of it, but I would love to know what the general opinion is of Tolstoy by historians regarding his history in War and Peace. My only real knowledge of Napoleon's invasion of Russia comes from this novel and I worry that Tolstoy's arguments many be far too one-sided in favor of the Russians.
