Has the battleship Yamato been mythologized/romanticized in Japan? I have the impression that it has, though if I am mistaken, please explain why.
And if the Yamato has been romanticized, well. Why? Is it just because of the cultural weight of the name "Yamato"? Because, from the documentaries I've watched, the actual warship had little positive military impact, if any, during WW2. I don't get it.

I recently visited Bletchley Park and found the history fascinating, but there was little mentioned about codes used by the Allies and if the Germans had any noteworthy successes similar to the breaking of the Lorenz Cipher and ENIGMA.
Thanks.

The only conditions I can see this happening is if some piece of desolate, windswept desert laid on the border which would provide no use. Some piece of land which would be more trouble to secure than holding it was worth.
Has any two countries ever squabbled, trying to pass off responsibility for some piece of territory on the other?

I am writing a fantasy book and would like to base one of my cultures on Mongolian horse tribes around the time of Genghis Khan. I have gotten a lot of good info from the internet but would like to know more about diet, interaction between tribes, how far they moved and how often, daily life, hierarchical structure, and more. Is there anybody out there that could help me or point me to some good resources?

So I recently just finished watching the Showtime series The Tudors and was fascinated by their portrayal of Henry VIII. I know that some creative liberties were taken while the show was being filmed and that Jonathan Rhys Meyers definitely cuts a much different form than my rather limited knowledge would expect of the actual man who lived in the mid-16th century. So my questions are: What physical ailments, conditions, or diseases did Henry VIII suffer from? did any of these worsen as he aged or play a major role in his livelihood? How did his political disposition compare to others at the time? Was he really as rash and self-motivated as he is portrayed as being in the show? Were there any advisers that he leaned upon heavily and how did they influence him in his decision-making? And what were the consequences of his rule? (besides the obvious creation of the Anglican Church) The show portrays England as descending into major religious and political strife that seems to be worsening as he ages and dies. What events came between his death and the rule of Elizabeth I that were of major historical relevance? Thanks for your time!

They had no formal education, no TV documentaries and no Wikipedia. Outside of their daily work, how much would a Western peasant have known about the political state of their surroundings, their history and what lay beyond the sea?
Is it conceivable that an English farmer may have been quite aware of Egypt and Russia?

During one of my University courses our professor mentioned that the Quakers had a great migration to the New World. Why did this occur? Did their writings or ideas change post migration?

I've been wondering about this for awhile now. I understand that it would have been likely that I would be taken in by relatives.
But what if I had no relatives or did they didn't want me. As for age lets say 8.
Also, would the nature of my parents fate change what would happen to me. Like if they died due to a natural disaster or from a illness effecting the city? Would the state become involved or would I be left to my own devices.

Did basic foodstuffs have a set minimum/maximum price? What about other goods such as spices or wine?

I'm studying this in school and for the life of me I cant understand what the hell is going on between them. I know she got pregnant and Abelard got castrated and left her in the coventry, but nothing I've read to me seems like he loved her at all. And yet I've heard people refer to this as a great tragic love story, or there story as a famous love story?

I was listening to Dan Carlin's Death Throes of the Republic and he mentioned something called the "corn dole", a piece of legislation that provided grain to the Roman Plebians. But corn, as I know it, is a New World crop. So what were the Romans referring to with the word "corn"?

Tried looking for an answer for this, but "Shia fury one tank" doesn't yield particularly good results.

I'm looking for a comprehensive history, but a book about the two countries in general with a tie-in to Spanish Conquistadors would be fine.

We'll say in the U.S., but I'd be happy to hear if anyone has any info for any location. I'm curious because I figure the technology used to print money in the early days wasn't too advanced and could be copied relatively easily.
