My understanding is that In WW2, Hitler wanted to conquer most of Europe, expand territory of Third Reich by incorporating surrounding countries etc.

But in WW1 plans are not so clear - e.g. what did Germany and Austria-Hungary plan to do with countries like Russia and France after defeating them? With France's colonies? Was it similar to what happened in 1870 Franco-Prussian war - Prussians won but did not attempt to anex it or install puppet government etc.

It seems political economy didn't become a field of its own until after the US was already founded, but I would be interested to hear what the economic views of founding fathers were in a way that is applicable today (e.g., being pro "free enterprise" or "redistributionist" to the extent that those terms were applicable in the late 18th century)

In those countries where no meaningful farming could be done during winter, what did farmers do after the harvest had been put up? I typically hear people talk about "mending tools," but frankly it seems like a few weeks would be sufficient to do all the maintenance that could be done.

I recently visited the supposed site of the Battle of Hastings, and it made me wonder how that spot was chosen. Did they just march towards each other and fight wherever they met? Or did the 2 leaders (in this case, William of Normandy and King Harold meet up and agree on a place? If that is the case, why would William agree to let the Saxons stand at the top of the hill where they had the advantage?

One thing I noticed looking back at notable leaders that were overthrown with the help of western powers in the Cold War is that they came to power mostly democratically such as Allende in Chile, Mosaddegh in Iran, and Lumumba in the DRC.

Were they the exception or the norm and were there difference between British, French, and Spanish colonies in this regard?

For those of you who don't now Dynasty Warriors is a game that takes place during the three kingdoms era of chinese history and mostly focuses on Cao Cao, Liu Bei and Sun Quan.

The main thing I was thinking about is, with the helm being open to the elements, was some poor, unfortunate soul required to remain topside to steer? Or is there some mechanism to use below decks? But I'm also looking for more general procedure that they would follow in an effort to survive.

I'm curious, in a general sense, what some of the nicknames enemy pilots would've had for some of the aircraft they would've encountered during their service. Any context to the nickname would be great as well (e.g "it was named x because it looked like/performed like").

Reading the article on the discovery of the subterranean city in Turkey's province of Nevşehir, I couldn't help but wonder what life must have been like living there. How did they control issues like disease, waste, food, water, and so forth? Did most residents use places like this as a full-time residence or were they primarily used in times of crisis as protection from invaders?

What did a soldier do? How widespread was gunpowder?

Did he just die from natural causes? I can't find a source that elaborates on his death.

So tsar and kaiser both mean Caesar. Charlemagne's empire was pointedly labelled a Roman one. Mehmed II claimed to be succesor to the Romans after his conquest of Constantinople in 1453. Were any of these claims, or others, legitimate? Is the idea of "succesor states" at all realistic?

Are classical craft skills seeing a revival, thanks to Youtube and social media? It seems there a sites and videos dedicated to all sorts of old crafts, blacksmithing, knitting, calligraphy, skills that were traditionally passed down from person to person. Can anyone comment on what impact the internet has made in these crafts? Is there a true resurgence, or am I simply more aware, due to the internet.
