I'm looking for a speech for declamation, and my father suggested that I declaim the speech that was given to the British Parliament convince them to not aid the South (leading up to the civil war), as they provided most of the cotton to Europe. This speaker (who is I don't know) used the argument that Britain had already outlawed slavery and it would be hypocritical to aid the Southern US who was fighting to keep slavery.

I'm sorry for the vagueness of this, as I cannot find evidence of this speech or who gave it online. If anyone has an idea as to what I am talking about (or suggestions for a similar declamation piece) it would be greatly appreciated.

I only really know of Rome existing up to about WWI, and finally collapsing largely with the dissolution of the Holy Roman Empire in 1806. Even that, I can't exactly remember how it is tied to the Roman Empire.

Did Antony really write a book about drinking? Do any excerpts survive? Wouldn't a book like that go against the professed values of Romans? I imagine Cato wouldn't have approved.

Even allowing for hostile sources, Pompey had not done well at Pharsalus and had little impact on the course of the battle after it had begun. Soon after the cavalry attack failed, he returned to camp. A little later, as he saw the signs of collapse, he took off his general’s insignia and fled.

Obviously the battle was going poorly for him, but that doesn't sound like behavior befitting a commander as distinguished as Pompey. It gives me the impression that Pompey's effort was half-hearted. Why was he so quick to give up?

Was it a common occurrence? What was the most notable uprising? Was their ever a plantation that was overrun by unhappy slaves.

Just wondering after thinking about the owner:slave ratios.

Did slave owners hire hands to deal with slaves? Was it hierarchy, where top slaves managed lowlier slaves? Just wondering how a plantation of dozens or more slaves were ever in control.

Also- Why was the office of High Priest abolished after the destruction of the Second Temple if it seems like the office was able to continue during the Babylonian Captivity?

I understand fighting between the Russians and Germans in WW2 was pretty crazy, and I doubt moral objections were a factor. So, what didn't they?

I am watching "Gunshi Kanbei", and Toyotomi Hideyoshi has just cut off his topknot in front of the lords of Setsu on his march to punish Akechi Mitsuhide for killing Oda Nobunaga. Why is this so significant for the assembled lords to be so impressed with this act?

How were they able to set up and tear down these fortifications and still have the time and energy to march to where they were headed?
