Hi guys! Someone from findapath suggested I ask you all advice on how to become a fashion historian, I live in Sydney and I've just finished high school. Next year I want to do American Studies at Sydney university as I have always loved the idea of learning about the country's economic structure and its history, or go and do fine arts at the Sydney college of the arts because I love art history and fashion photography, but I really do want to become a fashion historian above all else. I have no idea what to do. If you are a historian of any sort, how did you become one? How long did it take and how expensive was it? Thank you :)

My history professor mentioned a tragedian who put on a play depicting a recent battle (perhaps in the Peloponsian war) that made the audience so sad that he was punished in some way. At another time, a comedy was written about the same event but it made people laugh so much that the comedian wasn't punished. Is anyone familiar with the tragedian or either of the plays?

When reading about the Punic Wars, I encountered the part stating that Hannibal was recalled by the Carthaginians when their city was attacked. I'm curious about the logistics of contacting an army in enemy territory in ancient times - Did the Carthaginian leadership gather several messengers and tell them to sail to Italy, track down Hannibal's army and deliver the message? Did the Romans allow this through some diplomatic immunity or would they have killed such messengers if they found them?

We often have a tendency to assume that the relationship between science and engineering is one of mostly unidirectional influence; scientists/natural philosophers come up with theoretical knowledge, and then engineers take it and apply that knowledge to manipulate objects in the world. Is this really usually the case, or is it more common than we think for engineers or inventors to create something that inexplicably works, leaving the scientists to play catch up in finding out why it works?

Leading up to WWII, did people foresee the events that were to unfold or did things just suddenly escalate in rapid succession into full-on conflict, e.g. after the German invasion of Poland?
