Ok, so I inherited these two map lithographs from my grandparents; I just got them back early last month from my cousin, who'd been holding them for me.
They're old world maps, with imagery bordering them, depicting Greco-Roman and Biblical events and characters.
I was able to decipher part of the imagery from each one, and asked for further help to decipher more, and I tried contacting the company that made them, Portal Publications LTD for more information.
That said...one of the maps has a Latin phrase on it:
"nova totius terrarum orbis geographica ac hydrographica tabula"
Which translates to: " fresh whole world cura delineata"
Any idea what that means? Cause I'm not sure.

On the one hand, I can see American schools not wanting to lose out on a lot of money and pressuring lawmakers to restrict it to domestic schools only.
On the other hand, I can see depleted economies from war-ravaged allies (and enemies) similarly eager to grab onto that money.
So were there any restrictions on where this money could be used, and was there political pressure responsible for any restrictions?

I have been given an impression over time that Native American food (before European contact) was very bland and didn't use any spices. That impression is not backed by any research, and I have a hard time thinking it's true - I tend to ascribe it to some kind of Euro-biased slant to the history I was brought up on.
So, what was Native cuisine like in terms of flavoring? I'm particularly interested in the tribes from the SE USA, but if there's any interesting tidbits from other tribes I'm open to hearing about them.

One aspect of American slavery that I have never found a good estimate for is the number or percentage of families broken up by slavery...Slave owners could separate husbands and wives, parents and children...this seems like yet another very damaging aspect of slavery that I don't hear much about..

Well, I am an atheist and I really would like to know; I passed many years asking myself this question and didn't find a good answer. Is there any evidence that Jesus did exist ?

I'm preparing a big batch of candied pumpkin, which is one of many pumpkin dishes that's popular in Turkey. Pumpkins are native to North America so that got me thinking, what's the history of new world foods in the middle east? You hear a lot about the impact of the columbian exchange on European cuisine, but far less about how the new foods influenced Africa and practically nothing about Asia.
So, when were pumpkins and other new world crops introduced to regions like the Ottoman Empire or Egypt? How much did they influence local cuisines?

My father's late friend served in various battles, and we were given much of the memorabilia he brought back. Some of the pieces I have I personally don't have a use for, and would love to send them to a museum or school if they can be better used there. I can provide photos of the items as well. These are the items:
War Department Italian Introduction Language Guide (TM 30-303) June 2, 1943
War Department German Introduction Language Guide (TM 30-306) June 24, 1943
German Newspaper dated September 26, 1957
"The Oregonian" Newspaper sheets dated December 8, 13, 16, 19, 28 of 1944.
All items have been kept in a ziploc bag, but of course are slightly damaged/bent due to the years.

Hello there guys and girls,
this might be a silly question but I need it for my Worldbuilding project. (here is the piece I write about https://www.worldanvil.com/w/kandria-lorve/a/the-hill-guard-article?preview=1 )
I want to create a political party fascist party in a fantasy setting. For that, I want to understand the core difference between Fascism and Socialism at this time. I came to understand that there is a lot of bias and half-truths out there. People claiming that Socialism and Fascism are not similar to each other most of all that there has never been real socialism nor communism. I see that Socialism and Fascism are both anti-democratic and are totalitarian and stand against capitalism. Both want that the economics are state ruled. Both have declared their enemies for Fascists it is they whom they few as subhumans and for socialist it is everyone who isn't from the working class.
Since my history lessons only covered why Nazis are bad and never focused on why and how could Hitler (former Schickelgruber) Rise in Germany or Mussolini in Italy, I am missing this pieces.
best regards,

As he was the first non-Roman emperor, what are the differences and things in common which he had to the Classical models of the Roman empire?

Basically their argument goes like this, the Jewish people, throughout history, have been kicked out of a bunch of places a bunch of times, and thus this is evidence of their, I guess inner villainy or whatever. So I have no clue how to debunk that. They sent me a link that I can no longer find essentially giving a yearly overview of all the times that Jewish people tried to live somewhere and got kicked out. So what reasons were they kicked out? Is this a notable thing to happen to a group of people or is this kind of thing common.

I read recently that a lot of people counted as slaves looked very white, such as Jefferson's wife's half sister Sally Hemings. This got me thinking about the fact that a woman who looked somewhat white and her subsequent children with Jefferson who also looked white were slaves.
My first question is, because of how many children Jefferson had, does that mean that some white people with the last name Jefferson or Hemings are related to him?
My second question which is somewhat related. If so many extra people were counted as African slaves because of familial ties 3 to 4 generations back, does that mean a lot of poorer whites in the south are related to slaves in some way from that time. And also does this explain the insistence of purity among wealthier whites, since they consider these people as less than themselves even if they were free whites.
I find that a lot of the information I find on these subjects quite lacking and it feels like the whole picture of that time is presented as blacks under the thumb of the white man. However I see more of a division between class and the use of ancestry as an excuse to exert power over minority groups and the impoverished. I rarely hear about white people who can trace their lineage to slaves, but with the vast quantity of people included into the group for arbitrary reasons, it should be safe to assume that a lot more people who look white had an ancestor who was a slave.

Hello everybody,
Im writing a paper about the Nuremberg Trials and i want to focus on the legal legitimacy of the Law that was resorted to by the prosecution. Could you recommend some papers that deal with the legal legitimacy of the courts? I am talking about things like jurisdiction and retroactivity.
Thank you very much in advance. You might tell from my question that Im still learning and exploring the topic.
All the best

So this is a question that I figured would be incredibly interesting, and it would either bring with it an interesting or disappointing answer. Were there ever any Black soldiers that fought for the Confederacy? Was it just another form of forced labour by the slaveholder states of the Confederacy or did they do it of their free will? If so, is there any record of who they were and why they might have done this?
Hope to see an insightful answer that isn't "No"! :)

Chinese demographic history is uniquely intriguing, and is full of fluctuations, but one that sticks out is the more than doubling of the population over a relatively short time during the Song Dynasty.
That kind of sustained growth for a century seems out of character for the pre-modern era, where population growth was usually very low, with birth rates not much higher than death rates. Was there a conspicuous increase in fertility rate during the Song, a decline in infant mortality, both?
The population then continuously declined back to 60 million, barely higher than the population before the spike, and roughly equal to the Han Dynasty centuries earlier. Even the devastation in the 19th century, caused in part by the Taiping and Dungan rebellions, didn't result in that kind of demographic collapse, and the population was back to its 1850 level in about half a century. Following the peak during the Song, the population maintained a significant downward trajectory for nearly two centuries. What caused that level of decline so soon after a rapid increase?

I'm currently studying to become a teacher, and I was looking online for a website that I remember being shown when I studied modern history at school, so that I can show it to my own students. However, I couldn't find it. The website is a map of the Nazi invasion of the Soviet Union in the Second World War, and the map displayed troop movements and battles throughout the period over time. The map changed to show these movements over time, and it had a sidebar that showed written information about each major event. I was wondering if anyone here might know where the website I'm talking about is?
