Seriously. At what point did we as Americans decide lawns were a good idea and why?

I am willing to do some research and teach her how to find information on her own, but I don't know where to start. This topic seems too broad to me.
My daughter has been asking questions these days that I just can't answer very well.

Kind of a shower thought situation - popped into my head. I ask because I understand that gay women are often overlooked by homophobes throughout history, with more of a focus on gay men.

When the government of the USSR diverted the main rivers going into the Aral Sea for irrigation of croplands, did they realize that this would cause the sea to almost completely disappear over the coming decades? If so, did they think that the increase in crop production would be worth it, or was there no really clear study? How was this 'sold' to those who depended on the sea for their livelihoods?

The title says it all, pretty much. I'm looking for a book which would give me an in-depth look at the entirety of the Yugoslav Wars (from Slovenia to Kosovo), but are still digestible by the average reader.
Documentary/movie recommendations also welcome.
Thank you!

When talking about the US-Chile relations it is common to hear not only about 1973 coup but not so much about the Baltimore Affair (1891) and how we almost got involved in a war against the US just after our Civil War that same year (and the Pacific's War of 1879-83). Many times I heared that the chilean navy in that time could have beaten the northamerican fleet, and that the diplomatic relationship were already bad between both countries, but anyway, that's what I got from the chilean point of view, I haven't read anything from the other side.
So, summarizing: What happened in the US? What the people thought about the conflict? Is there any northamerican historian who talks about the conflict?
P.S: Yes, it's a repost, but allowed by a mod!

The idea that "Nirvana killed glam metal" seems to be conventional wisdom among music journalists, but is it true?
After all, there were still some glam metal hits in 1992, and Def Leppard hung onto the Billboard Year-End Top 100 as late as 1993. Furthermore, "Smells like Teen Spirit" wasn't even the highest ranking alternative rock song on the Billboard Year-End Top 100 in 1992 (that honor went to RHCP's "Under the Bridge"). Additionally, IIRC, Pearl Jam consistently outsold Nirvana until Kurt Cobain's untimely death in 1994, which further suggests that certain after-the-fact narratives have exaggerated Nirvana's influence during their less than three years of mainstream popularity as an active band.

Convoy actions don't count, unless that was as far as it went.

After viewing this, I just need to know what is the deal with this tool.
Is it just bad form that I see from the parts of those who show how it was done ? Were there different techniques ? Were they different scythes that were more or less efficent or body taxing ?
I know that doing this for a complete day would hinder my chances of surviving the next one, hence my question.
Thanks !

For example, the British dropped hundreds of thousands of mines to protect their shipping during WW2 - have those all been neutralized, or are there areas that are no go zones for shipping due to unexploded mines.

I know there is socialism is in the name but just because it is in the name does not make it true. I know hitler had left leaning tendencies, but it confuses me why he sided with a fascist and was so anti-communist. Could anyone shed sone light?
