Looking at maps of the Maurya Empire, it seems like they never conquered the southern tip of India (or Sri Lanka). Why?

Had Hitler ever fought on the front lines during WW1? I've heard that in Mein Kampf he mentions a part where he and his comrades have been defending a position for several days in 1918 before he was hospitalized because of a poison gas attack. How true is this? Are there any documents that confirm that he was deployed to the front lines? Thanks in advance

I heard about this somewhere before, and randomly spewed it out during my AP World History class. Just checking to confirm.

Circumstances can change a lot of things, but did anybody oppose the alliance on the basis of the very long history of rivalry between Austria and the Ottoman Empire?

I feel like there was an important power dynamic in the way important officials were seated. If someone sat to the right of a king, they were the more important guest. The less important guests sat farther and farther away. When I tried to investigate the fact, all that came up was a bunch of Bible websites. Is there any secular article describing this seating dynamic and the history of it? Or am I making this up?

Eva Kor is a victim of the Holocaust who speaks around the country, and in her message of forgiveness she tells a story about meeting with the officer at Auschwitz who looked into the chamber during the gassing, watched all the victims die, then signed a single death certificate. What was the purpose of these certificates? They seem a little humanizing in such a horrific process, and certainly more callous methods could have been used to track deaths. Can anyone clarify their purpose?

Medal and commendation notice here. A friend's late husband earned this medals and this notice. I'd like to find out a bit more information for her. How do I go about that?
TIA

The same portrait is used for both with no apparent explanation.

I was reading The Pursuit of Power by Richard J. Evans and in one of the chapters on empire he lists places that were never directly controlled by Europeans at any point in history, and his list includes Abyssinia. Is this not false? Ethiopia was conquered by Italy and made a colony in 1936 as far as I know. So why do I keep hearing it was one of the few places not under European control ever? I've heard this claim before and I am genuinely confused.

Is there any documentation describing or dealing with veterans with possible ptsd in say the Middle Ages? Or even Ancient Rome or Greece? I can only imagine some of their large battles lent themselves to psychological trauma for their soldiers.

I read that people used to sleep much differently before electricity. Specifically, it was common for people to sleep a few hours, get up for an hour or so, and then fall back asleep for a few more hours. Part of this was chalked up to people having more time to sleep because when the sun was down, there wasn't really much to do -- people don't sleep like this anymore because we try to get it all in at once so we don't waste time at night. So, accordingly, I would imagine during the summer, when days are longer, people would have slept less and during the winter, when days are shorter, people would have slept more. Is this true?

I need to make some decisions about careers and majors in college, and I LOVE history. What are some careers that involve history? It's always been my favorite subject and I have taken many advanced social studies and history courses throughout high school. I would love any feedback!
