During a roleplaying game a friend of mine said that during the 1920's Opium would have been stored in a bag of some kind. I have since learned that the plastic bag was patented in the 1950s, and the ziploc bag was invented in 1968. I would guess most powders would be stored in a glass beaker or vial during the 20's. Does anyone happen to know how powders (drugs in particular) would have been stored during the early twentieth century?

From my understanding, they outnumbered and outmatched the German Imperial Navy quite significantly. Why didn't they shell port cities or otherwise cause immense damage to Germany? I'm aware of the Zebugree Raid, and several attacks by German ships against British Port towns, but nothing else similar.

I often hear that plate armour eventually became cheaper than mail armour, but I also hear it otherwise. And as far as I can see, both sides have their arguments - but what is the truth? Did the price vary depending on your location, i.e; would plate armour in Milan or Augsburg be much cheaper when compared to plate armour in, say, England?
I'm hoping for info from the 15th century.

I've found great recommendations in the sidebar for the Battle of the Marne but can't find anything too helpful on the Ainse.
I'd love to learn more about the battle and welcome any resources whether in books or online somewhere.

Specifically: Why didn't the Soviet Union get a piece of Japan?
I heard "Douglas MacArthur" might have been responsible for it, but I don't understand, was there some kind of negotiation with the Soviet Union about this? Did the Soviet Union give up so easily? What happened?

All Browning Automatic Rifles I've seen only have a 20 round capacity. Usually when I think of the light machine gun role I think of suppressive fire. How effective could such a magazine capacity be in that role? Was it used differently than how I am thinking it was?

I understand that for women, in recent history, shaving became more practiced after WWI, with the arrival of shorter hemlines and sleeveless dresses showing (for the first time) skin, and therefore body hair.
I’m wondering if this was the first time that large-scale body hair removal was practiced? Has it been used in other countries/cultures as a way to increase one’s supposed sexuality? Was shaving always the preferred method or has plucking/waxing been implemented for the same effect? Also, WHEN did it become not only practiced but societally compelled? ie. body hair is unsexy.
I’m also vaguely looking for an historical explanation as to why body hair is seen as acceptable and attractive for men, and its seen as unappealing and unfeminine for women.

Dear AH, I saw some re-enactors recently who talked about how during the American Civil War, the surgeon general kept statistics as to the rate at which different weapons caused wounds, with only 1/147 wounds looked at coming from bayonets, less than 1%.
They also mentioned, however, an officer looked at the stats in the 1870's (possibly 1880's, I don't remember exactly) and found that if you add in stabbing wounds of unknown origin, it goes from <1% to ~10%, meaning that bayonets were either an almost negligible proportion of casualties, or a substantial minority, depending on how you looked at the stats.
Is there a consensus among modern historians on how to interpret these numbers?

I was having a discussion with a friend about ww2 and the beast that was Adolf Hitler. I was under the impression he shot himself and Braun to then be burnt? But my friend is very sure he escaped to Argentina to live out his life quietly, to later die of natural causes.
My question is, is there any evidence to back up the theory that he survived the fall of Berlin and escape to Berlin?

I know soldiers would loot better armor or weapons but what else did they loot from the field? What happened to the extra weapons and armor no one personally looted. Just how much would a single soldier even be able to loot?

Khomeini was arrested in 1963 after declaring the Shah a "wretched miserable man" who had "embarked on the [path toward] destruction of Islam in Iran." Three days of major riots throughout Iran followed, with 15,000 dead from police fire as reported by opposition sources. However, anti-revolutionary sources conjectured that just 32 were killed.
