So yeah, basically the top text is all what I have to say.

Hi! Firstly, I realise this is an incredibly niche area but I am a graphic design student working on collateral/stationary for a fictional hotel from the 1950s located in Bath. I am wondering how phone numbers worked in the 1950s, particularly one in Bath?
Also, did people write addresses in the same way as we write them these days? I'm reading that postal codes came in towards the very end of the 50s. Are there any other conventions that I might not be familiar with?
Thank you!
TLDR: What would be an example of a 1950s phone number from Bath, UK?

As I understand it, ancient pyramids have been found in Egypt, China, Mesoamerica, India, Greece, Mesopotamia, Spain, and many other places. Are there any theories why this form of monument was so pervasive among disparate cultures worldwide?

There’s an old adage that World War 2 was won with “American steel and Russian blood.” In the context of aid sent by the US to Russia during the war, what does “American Steel” actually mean? Were American factories making parts for Russian tanks? Or were the Americans literally shipping big blocks of pig iron to the Soviet Union?
For example, when we think about Soviet tanks during the war, we primarily think of Soviet-designed T34s, or British castoffs like the Matilda, but were the Soviets driving around in Sherman tanks at any point?

Basically as the title. Was the SA purged because Hitler feared Ernst Rohm was a rival or was it because of his sexuality or was it a combination of both? Or was it more to do with reducing the power of the SA?

I heard from my teacher that during the Weimar era, the German police forces possessed fancy toys such as submarines, tanks, and fighters since the Treaty of Versailles only limited the state's armed forces. Is it true they really possessed such gadgets? I mean it sounds more like a piece of fiction to me.

For example, were 1800s historians making profoundly off-base historical judgments because they were too quick to see cause-and-effect relationships between pieces of folklore and seemingly connected real-world events/practices?

A friend of mine claims that ancient Norse runes were once found in the state Minnesota and have been verified to be true. His source: "it was all over the news ten years ago." I have read that the Kensington runestone is widely regarded by scholars to be a hoax. Is there any evidence of Viking leaving runes or any other artifacts in Minnesota? And what do historians think of the Kensington runestone?

Did any pirates ever try to get shipping companies to give them money to “protect” them from robberies in the same way many organized crime syndicates did and still do in America? It seems to me that it’d be an extraordinarily effective business model.

I posted this on the Call of Duty thread and was encouraged to make a new thread for it.
I've read several times that the Japanese cautioned against an invasion of mainland USA because there would be a "rifle behind every blade of grass." How accurate is this?
I assume that the War Department made plans for any invasion anyways- what response would Civil Defense have in this situation? Was Civil Defense even prepared for a situation like this? It seems like they really hit their stride in the 50s through the 60s or 70s and tapered off after that, before moving to a more all-hazards approach seen in modern Offices of Emergency Management.

Is there a connection between Vercingetorix, Ambiorix etc and words/names like Victrix? I know that names were sometimes translated not just transliterated but the fact that most of the Gallic names are male makes me think that it's probably a coincidence.

Specifically, what places were most associated with housing the capital's elite? Was there a significant divide between housing for traditionally noble families and the equivalent of nouveau riche? How strictly was separation between these neighbourhoods and lower class areas enforced?

I'm doing some research comparing Pompeiian and Pompeii-contemporary soldiers and gladiators, and I was wondering what you folks (who are far more qualified than I am) had to say about the two.

I've recently thought about something that I am unable to find information on. Is it posdible that historians could have mistaken an ancient storybook for a recording of historical events? Or for future historians to do the same with a contemporary storybook?
