Everyone knows that Hugo Boss designed the Nazis' uniforms, but how did American WWII servicemen come to have such snazzy uniforms? Even compared to US WWI duds they seem much more aesthetically appealing. Were they designed with this purpose in mind?

Writing in c.1223 about the murder of Arthur of Brittany by King John, William le Breton notes that "The sea rises and falls at the times dictated by the Moon". How did early medieval minds know this? Or was it simply an observation that was linked through pattern?

Why are so many of the state (and federal) capital cities in the US not the largest by population nor strongest economically in the region they represent? E.g., Albany, NY and Sacramento, CA. Is there a common reason or just coincidence?

I was looking at a post from /r/de about the decreases in GDP a country would experience if their capital city were to disappear. Italy and Greece would be nothing without Rome and Athens. And England would suffer without London. The US without DC wouldn’t notice a difference.

Is there a historical reason for this? Or is it just coincidental - a common development of uncommon circumstance?

I hope this question isn't offensive to anyone and I don't mean for it to be. I'd like to know historically why that part of Bosnia has historically been Bosnian

Why were the techniques of shading, drawing light and perception of view "discovered" during the Renaissance?

If an artist sat down to draw something they saw in front of them, they would see shade, reflection of light, and that things that were closer to them appeared bigger. Why wouldn't they attempt to recreate that if they are already making an attempt at recreating color and shape? Even if they are drawing something they aren't looking at (i.e the crucifixion), they can apply those visual concepts to the art.

In 133BC when Tiberius Gracchus had the people vote Octavius out of office, why didn't Octavius Veto the vote?

Hello,

I'm not too well versed on the Gracchi, and I've read that Tiberius Gracchus had the people impeach Octavius because Octavius was refusing to allow a vote to be held on Agrarian Reform. But why would Octavius allow a vote to be held on his impeachment? Something clearly illegal (afaik) and unacceptable.
