lately i've been reading on Che Guevara and what he did. But i have been finding some conflicting information on him and i was wondering if it was true. here are the points i've heard lately but wasn't able to find much info on. (Wikipedia's article paints him more like a hero than a tyrant) First point. i've read in a few places that he was a sociopath/psychopath is this true? Second point, that he supposedly raped Women from lower social classes than him when he was younger.
third point, that he would have killed many people unfairly in his time in la cabana and another labor camp that i forget the name of and that he enjoyed killing.
and that he tried blowing up 500kg of tnt in New-York?
that he was racist towards black people?
i thank you for your answers in advance, lets just say that if he did do all those things that are harder to research, i would make a difference whether he was moral or immoral to my eyes.

In just a few centuries, despite having to establish themselves in hostile territory, and fighting off Britons, Scots, Irish, Vikings and each other, the Anglo-Saxons ended up beating everyone. Eventually, they'd go on to conquer both islands.
I'll admit, as an Irish poster, I'm fairly salty about this. I just want to know how, and why it seemed so effortless.

Are there any authors that have been thought of, or maybe even specific papers where we can't rule out the possibility that one pen name has multiple writers, where Thomas Jefferson is thought to be such an author of an Anti-Federalist paper/treatise?

I have seen conflicting information about how advanced the Nazis actually were. I know a lot of scientists were recuited to other countries after the war.

Hello, I'm looking for some information on the M15 Stielhandgranate, which is as far as I can find the first Stielhandgranate ever produced.
Some pictures have a sticker(?) or stencil(?) on the side of the charge that says "Vor Gebrauch Sprengkapsel Einsetzen", which means "Before Use, Insert Detonator". The problem is I don't know what this means in relation to the usage of the grenade. One source I found says that this was put on the grenade during production as a reminder to the people inserting detonators, but I've seen another sources saying that this is for the user (thrower) of the grenade.
I would have to assume this is for the manufacturer as the usage of the grenade consists of pulling the string at the bottom and throwing, nothing to do with inserting a detonator, but maybe I'm mistaken.
My main question is, was this "stencil" or "sticker" saying to insert the detonator removed before they were shipping out? Some pictures have the words on the grenade and others don't, and information about the Grenade is sparse (It's >100 years old now...).
Any help would be appreciated. Also, if you have any pictures of the grenade (hopefully those of the bottom of the wooden handle, where there is a knob extrusion where the ignition string hangs out)
Thank you! Here are some pictures of the M15 Stielhandgranate: http://www.passioncompassion1418.com/decouvertes/ImagesDecouvertes/Grenades/Grenade%20manche8.jpg

To further add, I think its fair to say moist Libertarians see themselves as the "true" continuation of the founding fathers of the U.S.'s view, though I don't think the political/economic theory consensus of the founding fathers (if there was any sort of consensus) would actually line up much with modern Objectivist type libertarians and Austrian school types. Despite this, I think even many people who aren't libertarians still accept this narrative. How did this come about, if it even did?

i.e. did they write apocryphal literature about Germanic invaders and were there any true efforts to reverse the tide of their decline, or were prominent politicians and generals too absorbed by inner power struggles to see the empire on the Whole was collapsing?
Edit: Specifically I was thinking of the last few decades before the dissolution of the western empire in 476

Hello all,
We wanted to let you know that, with the permission of the Reddit administrators, we are in the process of adding Amazon affiliate links to our Books and Resources list as we work on revamping sections of it over time. That means that if you click a link from our page and buy a book from Amazon, the AskHistorians affiliate account gets a portion of that revenue. We also have a long-standing Patreon account for our podcast, and as we have been uploading podcasts to YouTube and getting regular YouTube views, we have started to receive affiliate revenue from our YouTube channel.
We know that subreddits and monetization can be a thing people have Strong Opinions about on Reddit, and we want to be open with the community about what we currently plan to do with that money. A non-exhaustive list of options we have thus far are:
Covering costs for hosting and distribution of the AskHistorians Podcast, and potentially other mixed media generated in the future.
Targeted ads for the AskHistorians subreddit on sites which are 'in the field' such as H-Net, as well as general interest sites such as Facebook.
Honorariums for especially distinguished guests that we host either for AMAs or Podcast Interviews. (EDIT: See note below)
A scholarship or grant for an undergraduate student.
Reimbursement for academic conference expenses — members of our community have presented at the American Historical Association national conference, and at the National Council on Public History’s annual conference, and we’d like to do more of that in the future.
You can see an example of a page that we have rewritten and added affiliate links to here. As a side note, we’ve started adding brief excerpts from reviews to pages in the Books and Resources list, to better help people understand the type of resources we’re recommending.
To be absolutely clear, we are not and will not be paying anyone on the mod-team for work as moderators here, and we are not and will not take a salary out of this amount. We will keep an accounting of funds and their disbursement, which we will submit to the site admins if they ask.
If you have other ideas about ways we can use those funds to support public history, please add them in the comments! Or if you have other ideas or suggestions for us, let us know about those too.
(n.b. this was an editing mistake that got left in from an earlier draft -- we were talking about honoraria especially for outside guests who do AMAs or podcasts, to be specific that we would exclude the mod-team from this. "Guests" was supposed to be the active word there. To reiterate, we don't intend to have people here on the mod-team take any profit from this, at most we'd offer a reimbursement for something out of pocket.)

From pictures online, it appears that the IJN carrier aircraft used several different colours and cam schemes over the course of the war.
Notably I'm looking for the colour on the following planes; Mitsubishi A6M2, Nakajima B5N2, Nakajima E8N2, Aichi D3A1, Aichi D3A1A, Yokosuka D4Y1. Specifically the colour that the planes being carried by Kido Butai in June 1942 would have been.
Thanks!

I know the US had the Nuclear Triad of Land/Sea/Air so that no one deterrent could stop a strike but why did our Land Based missiles in the US seem to almost totally rely on hard silos? I know some variants of the Trident could be launched from mobile launchers since we had/have them in Turkey and parts of Europe so why invest so much money on silos which require a ton of upkeep and make for a static target?

I have heard a lot of people refer to the Potato Famine in Ireland as a genocide orchestrated by the British and others say that it was no such thing. I'm just curious to know the truth. Was the famine really a genocide? Or was it just simply a tragic famine?

Hello, good afternoon. I was curious after seeing the trade routes in old maps and was wondering that if people traded in far away regions, did they have the awareness of the current events(Or news) happening in other parts of the world? or what was happening in other Kingdoms or empires or Realms?. Sorta like now.
Thanks for your time!

A while back, a researcher and fencer well known in the HEMA community posted this video, in which he posits that people around 1500 or so primarily stepped on the balls of the feet first. The video is pretty superficial, it being only about 6 minutes long, and in it he makes references to period artwork, footwear, and posture.
What he's saying makes sense, at least to me, with very little knowledge of historical biology or the ability to interpret artwork with anything but a very superficial eye, but Roland is well-known and highly thought of in the HEMA community, and I wonder just how far we can trust or rely upon his conclusions.
So, is there a meaningful difference in the manner in which people walked a few hundred years ago?

I've been searching around the internet for a while now, but I simply cannot find anything on how effective the Greek Linothorax was, or how effective it would be with a bronze or iron chestplate over it, what sort of protection would it have against bows? If anyone has experience on this kind of thing, could you please elaborate?

As I understand it, Jordan annexed the West Bank in 1950 and conferred citizenship on the occupants. How is it then that there are current residents of the West Bank with no Jordanian citizenship? Did Jordan withdraw citizenship when it forfeited its claim to the West Bank?
