Surely they didn't have banks in today's sense, or did they? I'm curious as to where they kept their money? How did that whole system work?
If they kept it in a vault at their homes, was it guarded constantly from robbery? I'm just truly curious and fascinated how they stayed rich in such tumultuous times.

Were the colonies officially founded by some sort of expedition commissioned by a ruler, similar to what happened during the early modern era, or was this more a case of a few Greek traders setting up camp somewhere of their own accord, and other settlers following? Was it official/deliberate policy to found colonies, or was it more cultural happenstance?

I believe it only appears on flags kept indoors. Googled it but found conflicting answers

So somebody I know supposedly wrote a paper in college that claims that the first Irish were Inuit settlers in the last ice age. His sources are apparently from the Library of Congress and I honestly can't tell if he's screwing with me.
Is there any credibility to his claim and give me a run down of early Ireland.

I imagine snow-based architecture isn't very popular with archaeologists...

I saw this on the LetGo app for $10, thinking it was just the metal container. It said "Vietnam Era" in the title, but I'm sure this wasn't the only first aid kit the military used during that time. I took it home and it seems to have everything in it. All the boxes have all items and the scissors even still have that plastic shrink wrap on them! Any information on the specific use of this/year it was made/anything at all would be greatly appreciated! Pictures
Edit: The little instruction card says "GPO : 1963 0 -- 680858"

Asking again, how soon did far-right parties form in either West or East Germany? Did any claim to be the successors to the Nazi Party, and was there any backlash to them?

I just read Fear, which was a remarkably-written, damning indictment, but I know Gross is controversial, to say the least. What do Holocaust and Jewish historians make of his work?

For over four hundred years the Emperor held the title of Sultan and Caliph. When the final Sultan Mehmed VI was deposed, his cousin Abdulmejid II was elected Caliph a few weeks later. If both positions were traditionally held by the same man, why did the Turks allow the Caliph position to still exist after removing the Sultan position? Obviously the Caliph was deposed do to Kemal's secularization of the country but it just seems odd that the new nation would still want an Osman in a prestigious office.

I've been reading about Shah Jahan's eldest daughter and women during that time and it seemed that Muslims during that time were overall progressive compared to the muslim dominant countries of our present time. Can one assume so?What about other Islam empires of that time?

I assume it is different for separate countries and has evolved over time but when an enemy surrenders what did the American soldiers do with the German soldiers that surrendered to them at the beaches of Normandy? Do they just drop their mission to tie them up or bring them back? Do they call it in and a big POW bus comes to pick them up?

I've always been curious, did civilizations such as ancient Rome or Egypt have museums (whether they are close to our modern versions or not). If so, what are some of the items I would see if I were a visitor during that time?

With regards to contemporary writings of the early republic, mainly.

The popular image of a wizard in the western world today is an old man in a robe chanting in Latin to fling fire and lighting and the like. How was it seen in the past? What did ancient, and not so ancient, peoples think of when they thought of magic? How did it function, what were it's rules, and how was it viewed?
Edit:I don't need an answer for every possible culture. If people could just answer these questions for whichever culture they have the best knowledge of, I'd really appreciate it!

Nevada became a state during the Civil War, so there was a state government, but I'm curious about the census in these very remote areas. Did Census workers ride on horseback to every small location at the turn of the century? How was the data gathered?

I've always heard that we could've won, but we didn't want to, which I think is stupid. My knowledge of the Vietnam war isn't up to par with my knowledge of other wars, so I ask why did we lose, maybe better put, why didn't we win? From an outsider looking in that war was similar to US island hopping in WWII against Japan. Suicide tactics, guerrilla warfare, harsh jungle setting, etc. I'd wager that in Vietnam we had an even bigger technology gap between the two fighting factions than we did in the Pacific Theater.

Let me first mention, in case it's not obvious, that I don't agree with any views expressed by nazis.
I was just wondering if the removal of that concept of "nationless culture/race" would have been considered a solution for nazis, instead of eradication.

Much of New England was settled by Puritans, who were very socially conservative even by the standards of the time. How is it that New England (and Massachusetts in particular) slowly became one of the most progressive and socially liberal parts of the country? When did that shift start to occur and when would you say was the turning point?
