If I'm a colonist in Virginia, say, could I just decide to move to Massachusetts? Am I attached to a particular colony and required to to get permission from some authority, or can I move as I wish? Was there any significance to a normal person in crossing borders -- not in terms of border controls, but would someone conceive of it as closer to the way we feel about moving between Vermont and Canada or Vermont and New Hampshire?

Political collapse around 1600 happened all over the world, from the Moroccan destruction of Songhay to the Ming-Qing transition in China to the Wars of Religion in France. But in most places order and unity was restored within a few years or at most a few decades.
But from my limited understanding of West African history, it seems that after 1590 there was no region-wide empire like Mali or Songhay until the jihad states of the late 18th century. What gives?

Why did the USA support France in the Second Indo-China war when they were supposedly in favor of decolonization as suggested by point 5 of Wilson's 14 points?
A free, open-minded, and absolutely impartial adjustment of all colonial claims, based upon a strict observance of the principle that in determining all such questions of sovereignty the interests of the populations concerned must have equal weight with the equitable claims of the government whose title is to be determined.
Edit: Title should be "Why did the USA support France in the Second Indo-China War"

I know some famous colonists were born in India like Rudyard Kipling but why was there not the same migration there that we saw in the Americas etc?

Rome got grain from across North Africa. Did they do that by putting people there on subsistence diets or was there really a surplus? And if so what happened to it?

It seems like that is water on the other side, is it water or a very black sky? this photo is very confusing, the ship can't be this far tilted, it would sink and those men wouldn't be able to stand.

As one more thought, would these soldiers have actually seen combat against the Confederates, or would they have remained in the territories to fight the various Native American tribes?

What was actual level of cooperation, assistance and communication between the Empire of Japan and Nazi Germany during the war? Obviously they were allies but it does not seem like they worked together other than being at war with the same nations. Was technology shared, resources, military advisors?

I understand with South Korea the US can essentially use the males as military assets whenever they please so maybe they are under US rule but what about Germany and Japan who are bigger world players?
Like if out of the blue the US told Japan to apologize for the comfort women issue will they follow?
Or if they told Germany they had to reinstate the military draft will they do it?
If this isn't the case what events led to the loosening of the leash by US powers?

Since firearms were introduced to the battlefield because armor got so effective that bows and crossbows couldn't penetrate it. By the 18th century armor and melee weapons had mostly disappeared from the battlefield but I would imagine if a group of soldiers were to arm themselves they'd be able to dominate their opponents with faster more accurate weapons. Same thing with spears.

I assume by letter a lot of the time; but did soldiers, etc. sometimes go to people's doors, and so on? Or how did it work back then?

Holding large parts of modern day Croatia, I'm curious as to how the Republic of Venice viewed and treated Croatians.

I have always wondered how Szczecin ended up as a part of Poland after WW2, instead of staying a german city, even if it's on the german side of the Oder and 50% of the german border in defined by the Oder. Did it have to do something with the way how the russians occupied Germany, some small polish ethnicities or is/was the city of some strategic interest?
