Primary sources for Battle of Noryang (Korea, 1598)

The title is pretty self-explanatory. I was listening to the new History of Rome Appendices from Mike Duncan and he mentioned that it's not that hard for one person to read literally everything we have from ancient literary sources from Rome, and that's kind of sad. But it also made me think about how many primary sources we must have for a lot of other things. So anyway, the Battle of Noryang is something I'm interested in knowing more about, and I wanted to find out if there are primary sources translated in English I could access.

I am a Taoist in 4th century China. Say I hop in a time machine and travel to the year 1200. How has Taosim changed? Would I be able to recognize Taoism as I know and practice it? What difference might I see between a rich urban citizen and poor peasant as far as Taoist beliefs are concerned?

How did baseball settle on having 9 players on the field for the defense?

I'm specifically curious about how the shortstop came to be. A player for each base, all three fields, one to catch, and one to pitch, are all fairly intuitive, but how did they decide on having a ninth man to stand between 2nd and 3rd?

What demographics supported Hitler in the 1932 election?

In 1996, white people supported Sen. Dole by a 46-44 margin (http://ropercenter.cornell.edu/polls/us-elections/how-groups-voted/how-groups-voted-1996/) while blacks and hispanics went by strong margins to Bill Clinton. The poor voted for Clinton, the rich went for Dole.

So, if this was 1932 and Nate Silver was preparing to make a livecast of the elections, what can we expect to see from the Catholics, the Jews, East Prussia, etc?

Recreating a history map of Christian Europe and the Crusades

Hi /r/AskHistorians! I have a fantastic but dated/worn map of Europe hanging in my dining room. I gaze upon it daily and every time I pass it, I find new and interesting things I want to learn more about.

I've noticed a lot of things wrong with it and I have taken up the mission to recreate it and, once finished, reprint it.

The European background has been recreated using more up to date land maps taken from various sources and I have painstakingly drawn some of the more prominent/important rivers on the map.

Because I want this new map to be as accurate as possible, I would like some feedback on the rivers. I haven't included every river in Europe, just the important ones during that time. Note that the scale of the rivers hasn't been adjusted properly yet, so some are bigger than they should be (this was to make it easier for me).

Could the historians of Reddit take a look at what I have right now, point out errors in the placement of certain rivers and maybe suggest others that I must certainly not forget (Russia/Baltics specifically)?

After the rivers are complete, I'll go for the mountains!

Thank you all so much in advance for any feedback you can give me. Please point out any flaws on the old map that I must certainly correct on the new version. You can find an album of here: http://imgur.com/a/ugRkh and I will keep this updated with my work.

What happened to Veii after the Roman conquest?

Did it remain an important city? Was it abandoned? Did it fade away? Did it Romanize, or retain some of its earlier Etruscan culture?

Was England's role in worsening the potato famine one of neglect or did they actually try to increase the suffering?

As far as I know, it has been shown that English policies played a large part in the scale of Irish suffering. Curious if this was a matter of not caring or actually trying to make the Irish suffer more.

In the Bayeux Tapestry, both Odo and William are shown using clubs during the battle of Hastings. Why didn't they use swords or lances?

Was it like a sign of status, like a swagger stick or a centurion's vitis, or was this style of weapon chosen for a specific reason? Would the artists of the tapestry distinguish between a club and a mace?

It is 1918, and I am a wealthy Russian businessman. What happens to my assets under the new Soviet government?

Further elaboration: I am a wealthy Russian businessman in Moscow. I have been generous with my wealth, and as a result the people love me. I threw my support I behind Lenin and the Bolsheviks, and am viewed as being loyal to the new Soviet government. I have assets in the form of cash, bonds, stocks, commodities, and properties both domestically in Russia and in foreign nations, such as a condo in New York. My business is a glass bottle factory; I pay my workers high wages, and produce bottles which are considered to be good quality and sold for a fair price. Given this information, how would I be treated? Would everything I have be taken by the state? What about my foreign property? Would my apparent loyalty to the new government and support of the common people allow me to maintain my current post and life in some fashion under the new government?

Looking for a WWII Army unit (my grandfathers). Only have a picture of the crest

My grandfather passed away in 2001, and left no military records. He was drafted into the Army in 1942, and was sent to fight in Europe. Being a veteran myself, I am very interested to learn of his personal exploits and his unit's involvements. He did not speak about his involvements in WWII with the exception of when he received a Bronze Star with V device and a purple heart during the Battle of the Bulge. According to my father, the records building containing my grandfathers records burned down many years ago. It is also possible that this is not a US Army crest. My father has a box of Nazi memorabilia my grandfather brought back. Link to the crest:

Any information about what unit this is from / any information would be immensely appreciated. I have tried the brute force approach of scrolling through thousands of historical military society archives, but to no avail (yet).

Why are more eastern ancient cities still populated compared to ancient western cities?

This might be wrong and is totally based on on my own meager knowledge of history, but it seems like a lot more ancient cities in the east survive to the current day compared to their western counterparts.

A lot of major ancient western cities such as Brundisium, Carthage, etc. are no longer inhabited, whereas cities such as Xiangyang, Tokyo, etc., are still populated and growing. A lot of these eastern cities were sacked and razed just as much as western ones, yet people never completely stopped living there.

Obviously, there are western cities which still exist such as Rome, and most cities are pretty old. But overall it seems like a lot more eastern cities have a history that goes back thousands of years and not just hundreds.

Is there any reason for this? Or am I misinterpreting things?
