I was browsing various occult topics on wikipedia when Daemonologie came up. I found a pdf of it in all its glorious olde english and was thoroughly engrossed reading it.

Did any of the other great philosophers, theologians, or monarchs write so much about the occult? If I had to give a scope, would Europe before 1850 work? I'd love to take a look at other works like Daemonologie!

Once upon a time, I did a paper about a man who served in the 14th Surrey Militia. I struggled to find more about this unit, but it is not something I am familiar researching, so someone else may be able to help. If you could direct me to a reputable source on the unit history in the Boer War. Anything would be helpful. Unit rolls, actions, commanders, diaries, etc.

I was looking through old papers and remembered my failure. I would like to remedy it now.

EDIT: I was looking more and realized there may be multiple units that had battalions that might have used such a designation. Getting me to rolls of any of them would allow me to search for his name.

EDIT #2: Evidently, my research prowess has increased. I believe that is the West Surrey Regiment, but I am not certain of the Battalion.

Hey folks; was wondering if ya'll could recommend any fairly readily available books/sources on life in, and the economics and politics around, the founding of the early American colonies. Particularly interested in the functioning of and culture within the various companies chartered by the English crown to establish colonies. But also interested in life in, and differences between, the very earliest 16th and 17th century ventures.

No necessarily looking for sensational tales of disapearing colonies, but more a level headed looks at what the political, social, and day to day function life landscape was for the people in the colonies, and the corporations sometimes involved.

I know it's quite an open ended question, but I've always been fascinated by the fact that the Mongols conquered and ruled Russia and Ukraine for quite some time.

What were the consequences? Was there a massive demographic shift of "Asian" people into Russia/Ukraine? Did it effect political and religious issues?

I am looking for something that will not only detail what happened but why it happened. Something that will go into detail about the major figures during the war, the decisions they made, why they made those decisions and the consequences.

This is probably a very general inquiry, but I'd appreciate suggestions for anything that can help me get a start in understanding the events in and around the Second World War

So I'm reading a book on the 1972 US Presidential election and it led me to reading about Watergate and the "dirty tricks" that were uncovered upon investigation. Wikipedia taught me about the Canuck Letter and has some vague mentions of slush funds and money laundering, but that's about it.

What other things did Nixon and CRP do to sabotage the campaigns of his Democratic rivals in the 1972 election?

I couldn't find anything substantial in the books/resource list. Are there any good books that focus on the Empire, from its formation to more modern times?

How often did people of the 1500s wash themselves and their clothes? Was it really common to bathe once a week or less? Did everyone just smell bad? What was the general state of hygiene?

Was there any racism or prejudice from other American troops due to them being the same ethnicity as the enemy? Did they also experience some culture shock going to their native country probably for the first time?

A common stereotype of conquistadors is of them planting flags and claiming territory for Spain despite the fact that there are clearly already people living there. How did that attitude compare to explorers visiting Africa or Asia? Did any explorers verbally annex territory directly outside Mumbai or Beijing for example without asking permission first?

This story comes up in The West Wing so I wouldn't be surprised if it's been answered.

I've recently heard that the Dark Ages were in fact not as bad as I've been led to believe. I always thought that after the fall of the Roman Empire a lot of technology was lost and the new Christian faith promoted ignorance and shied away from previous knowledge. Is this true?

I'm taking a New Testament class at school and we are talking about the context of when it was first written, probably within the first two centuries after Jesus's death. At the time Christians were still pseudo-Jewish and not until later evangelism (Paul) did Christianity spread. I guess what I really want to know is what exactly about this religion appealed to Pagans as opposed to Judaism which from Christian standards, worships the same God?
