My own knowledge on this is fairly limited, from looking at Scandinavian history it seems as if, from about the 15th century, there is an increase in participation in armies. How did this occur elsewhere in Europe and how big did these European armies get?

I have noticed that student protests and other unrests were really prominent in the 60's, not only in the west, but throughout the world. The most prominent example would be the hippy/anti-war movement in the US, but I have also heard of examples of unusual level of civil unrest in a lot of other countries, such as:
UK, Germany, France, Belgium, Japan, Korea, Thailand and China.
(I admit I am not super familiar with the examples, so i may have some misconception).
Is this merely a co-incidence that these all occured close to each other, or are there more underlining causes that link them together?

I'm taking a class about Nazi Germany and the Holocaust and we are discussing antisemitism throughout history. I've only read the biblical account of Jesus' crucifixion, which puts the blame squarely on Jewish leaders at the time. Reading our class text reveals that that is not the case. Doris Bergen in his book "War and Genocide" even goes to the length of saying this version of events is a "false accusation".
Further research in this subreddit revealed a bit more. In their response here u/gingerkid1234 calls the court the Jewish leaders held a "kangaroo court". But in another thread u/brojangles describes Mark (the Bible character) as being extremely biased in his account of the events since he lived in a Roman city at the time. So with all the historical evidence available, how much blame do the Romans and the Jews each get for the death of Jesus of Nazareth?

I've just finished reading "Seven Myths of the Spanish Conquest" (recommended here), which did a wonderful job of educating me while teasing me with fantastic stories (ex. the life of Juan Valiente, my god, why isn't this a block buster?!). What's the best book that will educate me, tell a good story, and not make me sound stupid if I post a question on AskHistorians? I'm just a guy that reads on the train, thanks

I'd like to know how the ranks changed from dynasty to dynasty, how the position holder was chosen, what their job was, and how much money they earned? Did any of them ever enrich their families enrich themselves similar to how stewards of kings in Europe did? Do any of their families survive today as old money?

I'm fairly flexible on the medieval portion of it. Looking for recommendations from the Franks through out the "Renaissance" really. If it's pre-Louis XIV I'll check it out.

I understand that realism is not the be all and end all of art (and I find traditional Japanese art quite beautiful) but it's striking that we have realistic portraits of European monarchs going back to Tudor times, and none of Japanese figures until very recently.

I recently saw the movie Pearl Harbor (from Michael Bay) and I was wondering how accurate the representation of the actual attack was? A specific example: the communication in Washington failed and a couple hours after the attack the commander of the fleet gets a message that a Japanese attack was imminent. --> was the communication really that bad during that period.
I'd also like to know if the 2 leading roles (Rafe and Danny) really were considered heroes after they were the only 2 pilots to take off.
It's not mandatory to respond to the question about communication, it was just an example.

Of course, no one has ever seen a mythological or fantastic creature. No one has ever seen a dragon, a centaur or unicorn. But that doesn't stop people from believing they had seen them, does it? And here, I'm not talking if travelers claimed they had seen one, but if there are any records of people actually believing that they had witnessed a monster.
Perhaps being in a thunderstorm, a lightning would reveal a cloud that looked like a dragon? Or from far away a passing party of riders might look like centaurs or something.
I ask this also because sometimes it seems strange to me that people would have believed in all of these fantastic tales without ever having seen anything like it.
