I'm trying to get a pretty detailed understanding of how wages were determined in the USSR under various time periods. My understanding is that at certain times they were piece-rate based, but I'm not able to find how they determined the rate per piece. Was there some sort of objective formulae, is there any primary source documents on this or even a good secondary source that goes into a detailed analysis?

If you can provide any detail for any time period, that would be much appreciated.

I am just beginning to look more into Roman history so I'm not sure if this is common knowledge or not. I think I remember reading somewhere that a lot of civilans were murdered by Caesar (his forces) in Gaul. Is this true and if it is, are there any estimates on number of people killed?

He's someone who has a lot of respect, especially considering he was a General fighting for Nazi Germany, both as a commander and as a soldier.

I've heard...I guess rumours for example that he allowed Jews to escape that were captured, essentially had he of been an actual supporter of the Nazis that Germany would have been much harder to beat (since he wouldn't have been executed).

From what I have read, USSR had one of the largest submarine fleets prior to and during ww2. However, the number of ships sunk by them is incredibly low and I can't even find any reliable source of how many ships they sunk. There is massive variation in how many ships and most of them don't have tonnage indicated, so I'm very confused.

My larger question is what role the Byzantine Empire played in transmitting the knowledge of the classical period to western Europe.

I wonder this as many TV shows, movies and video games depicting the ancient era often show things like watch towers showing relatively complex lashed-log truss structures. Obviously by the Roman era this knowledge became widespread, but at what point did we start to build things taller than single-story adobe huts?

I've never read the Bible but I ran across this story while reading Habibi by Craig Thompson. I looked it up and Wikipedia and learned that Moses' wife is described as being Cushite, which is modern Ethiopia. Was it unusual for somebody to marry outside their culture/ethnicity/tribe in ancient Southwest Asia? Did they have a concept of race in our modern sense?
