I'd like to know what the main topic(s) of debate are for the Sengoku period of Japan. For example, whether or not Ieyasu truly brought peace and unity to Japan or whether or not it was inevitable (if you can give any interpretations on this example that would also be great).

Sorry if the title downplays Chinese involvement in WW2 or overstates American contributions, I'm not highly educated in the Pacific theater in relation to China and their part in the war, other than the atrocities committed to them by Japan.

Since America invented the automobile, you would think the world would have adopted American standards. Did the British always have cars with the steering wheel on the right?

In my studies it was made very clear that African Americans and Creoles were responsible for the creation of blues, rock, jazz, funk, and hip-hop, which is basically everything except for Appalachian folk music and the genres that grew out of it. It is important to note that once a genre was created whites seemed to be equally capable at contributing and evolving the genre, and in many cases (like rock and roll) took over it completely.

One explanation is that black people are just naturally better at inventing new genres. What I think is more likely however is that something about being "held back by the man" has helped certain people to create new forms of art. This theory also makes sense if you look at at the origins of the blues in the late 19th century, which basically evolved from the "field hollers" that slaves would sing to to vent their feelings as they worked.

It should also be noted that some influence would have definitely come directly from African tribal music, but I think that the possibility of this being the only cause stops after the blues as the small amount of knowledge that would have been conserved to that point would by then be out in the open.

I have a double major in music and computer science, so I have learned a fair amount about how western music (both popular and "art") got to where it is today. What I'm looking for are comparisons in markets that were not heavily influenced by western pop music.

It would also be interesting to see if similar things have happened with other forms of art besides music.

My old 'The World Wars' history professor used to work in a museum dealing with WW2 Trucks and stuff, and that's gotten me into logistics in general. I remember this one book with a picture of a truck on it but I can't remember the name...What are the best books on logistics? I've already started to read a bit up online about the Red Ball Express.

And how did such knowledge get so widespread? Were there just surface deposits of metal that someone decided to play with one day? It just seems like such a complicated process to have just... happened.

And what about certain weapon types, like the Axe or the Bow? Like the native americans and europeans/asians seemed to use several of the same types of weapons. Axes, Swords, Bows, Spears. The spear I understand, but how did the rest get so widespread among cultures that hadn't found one another?

One of my classes (History of Modern Espionage) requires a 20 page essay as a part of the curriculum. I'm having some trouble coming up with a topic at the moment.

My general topic is to discuss Snowden in a historical manner relating to the history of modern espionage and I'm not sure where I can go from here.

Did the British Empire face a lack of administrators to run its empire, considering its size? I know natives educated to British standards were allowed into the administration in many cases, but I imagine they needed at least a proportion of native Britons to keep the countries under control.

How much bigger would it have been possible for the empire to be, ignoring political conditions, for example taking China in addition to India?

And what tools or ways would they have used to discover it?? And what would happen to me, or how would my sentence be??

Me and my girlfriend have been having an ongoing discussion about the second Greco-Persian war. She is an Iranian immigrant and was surprised to hear that the most common narative here in the US (the only narative, until I met her) was that the Persian army burned Athens before Salamis and their eventual withdrawal. In Iran the story, apparently, is that Xerxes mercifully spared the city. I was skeptical of this, partially because it doesn't jive with what little I know about Persian motivations at the time, and partially because my girlfriend can be pretty nationalist, as is, I gather, the Iranian education system. But she is sharp, and actually mentioned a Greek (Lydian I think) historian who supported that account. I don't remember his name, sorry! I only heard the Persian name. :/
