I downloaded a preview of Black Rednecks and White Liberals, and it is interesting, but I'm planning on reading it for entertainment, rather than critically following up footnotes. Does anyone know if the facts are generally accurate? I'm aware that there will be some controversial opinions, but those are easier to spot than spurious "facts".

Especially things like slavery and the Holocaust.

I imagine after studying these events, there is a natural tendency to get desensitized. Is it possible to not be desensitized? Does it bother you when/if you do get desensitized?

For example, the British created racist institutions in their colonies, and it seems that colonizers more often than not looked down on those they conquered. However, was this attitude universal, or was some colonization and exploration founded on respect and interest in other cultures?

It's always seemed to me to that there is a trend of rejecting European traditions and culture that were imposed on them in the black community, even today. However, Christianity seems to have survived that, with preachers and reverends historically being, and remaining to this day, some of strongest and most widely respected pillars of the Black community. How did this sentiment remain so strong in the face of the rejection of European influence, even when the Bible explicitly condones slavery?

Did it simply remain ingrained in the people after centuries of being forced on them by Europeans? I would think this might have been the case, but I don't think black slaves were in America in such large numbers for more than maybe 200 years, with most enslaved Africans only coming to the country after the late 1700's. That seems like a relatively short time for a religion to become so widely adopted willingly and embraced within the community.

If I understand correctly, after a decisive defeat at Kalkhin Gol, the Japanese military decided to attack the pacific rather than continue in China.

Why?

I read stories like Pride & Prejudice and I mean literature around that time. I see many things about women who had to marry men for money etc but where never truly happy. I would like a good story about women who married the ones they love.

I haven't read many books around that time zone and I would love some whitty, funny and romantic stories.

It seems that many different countries would have believed they had claim to him, and many of those countries would have dissenting opinions on what punishment was appropriate.

Was there one country it was assumed would get to oversee his sentencing?
