This sounds like a leading question, but my question is a little more specific than I wanted to go in the title. I'll break it up:

• Did Odoacer make any attempt at usurping the imperial title in the west?

• Was he actually responsible for another Emperor not being appointed after the deposition of Romulus?

• Did Zeno or Odoacer attempt to restore the western line of rule at all? If so, why did they consider it worthwhile?

• Did either Odoacer or Zeno have ambitions for a restoration of the Empire in the west, either under one or two Emperors?

I had heard some where that this was due to the fact that banks and credit institutions were unable to force restitution on women who were unable to pay off their loans or credit cards. What actually went down?

Was this training indicative of a higher moral capacity? Would I be eligible to participate more in society if I had completed this training?

It irks me that medieval scribes may have messed up the texts over centuries of copying. How accurate do textual critics think texts by Virgil and Ovid, Plato and Aristotle, The Iliad and The Odyssey are to their originals? Or at least versions actually read in ancient times.

Hi, I am an art student doing a project on WWII era sailors. I was wondering if anyone could help me clarify a few things:

1. Did captains of the ship wear the same uniform as other officers? Did they just have different badges/insignia to differentiate them?

2. Related to the first question, what determined whether they wore a khaki or blue coat? I know for seamen, white and blue was for summer and winter, so how about for captains?

3. When would a sailor wear dungaree uniform vs the dress/undress white and blue uniforms? Would a specific job require them to change from one uniform to another? Or did sailors in dungaree have a different job then sailors in the white/blue uniforms?

4. Lastly, would these rules apply differently based on what kind of ship they were in? Like on a cargo ship, would the sailors have the same uniforms as the ones on the destroyers?

Although the term Kraken is first in print in Systema Naturae (Carolus Linnaeus - 1735), stories about this mythological creature seem to date back centuries earlier. What I am trying to find is the origin of the Kraken myth.

As is always the case, politics brings out a lot of rhetoric, talking points, and these days, bite sized memes that are used to win political points and make an argument. Some are valid and factually correct, some are not. Some are simply hazy and over simplified. And some are just guano.

Recently, a lot about Hillary Clinton's past as a "Goldwater Girl", which was a young female supporter of Goldwater's 1964 campaign for President, is being presented often in a way that paints her in a negative light. The argument behind it is that he was a Segregationist in the vein of Governor George Wallace of Alabama and her support of him raises questions about her views on race.

German unification was rather recent, at least more recent then Austira control over Hungry. Why did the allies keep Germany unified during the peace process?

Surely it would have been easy to break Germany into several lesser states and ensure both peace while preventing Prussian consolidation of power.

So we are playing a sort of DnD about the French Revolution in class. It's loosely based on what actually happens but so far it has derailed from actual history.

So what I need is some ideas for taxes and other sources of revenue to help stabilize the economy.

Some things that will affect your opinion. -Louis xvi has been dethroned. -nobility have lost their titles but retain their wealth. -clergy were forced to sign the constitution of the clergy -church lands are being sold for profit -Austria and Prussia have teamed up and have declared war on France claiming that they aim to put the royalty back into power.

Also these methods of revenue are being proposed to allow the freedom of slaves in French colonies. Reason being that they are revolting but the taxes collected from trade from the colonies is our greatest source of revenue.

I'm doing as much research as possible but I only have 2 days to develop these proposals and I know just about nothing as far as taxes.

In places like India, Thailand, China, and elsewhere there is a noticeable (but not universal) preference for lighter skin.

It was my understanding that this is an ancient cultural thing that isn't directly related to white western beauty standards of the post-colonial world.

Of course these things are now intertwined but my question is whether the beauty standard of fair-skinned women is documented independently from before contact with any European cultures.

I know 3rd parties still exist and are still represented in elections, but when did it become a "waste" of a vote to go with a 3rd party?

I wrote "comfort women" between quotation marks as I personally find that the words has euphemistic qualities - these women were basically sex slaves to the Japanese soldiers.
