I assume the soldiers of the Continental Army were armed by the army, while the militia may have provided their own arms, but have no reason to believe this besides some general history knowledge, so please, correct me if I'm wrong.

If the arms were provided, where did the money come from? How about the guns themselves?

Can you give me a general idea of how the logistics worked? (e.g. the city of Boston contributed tax money to the Continental army, who contracted out smiths who made the guns)

Was the French government a big contributor of arms to the Americans?

I am not sure what is the best way to ask this question but basically most places I look up seem to have America as discovering most things if it's from an American source or Britain discovering most things when it's from a British source.

So did the British empire have as much of an impact on the rest of the world as it would seem and is there a country with comparable influence (that is still around).

I have often viewed Pickets Charge as a very Napoleonic style attack. Preparing the attack with a heavy artillery bombardment followed by a frontal infantry attack is similar to the great "Monsterous Column" of then General MacDonald. However, I know that military theory did progress after Waterloo.

So I ask, how much influence did Napoleonic Column attacks have on Lee when he was planning Pickets Charge?

Comprehensive is nice, but I guess anything leading to the start would be ideal.

My mom wants to get a working knowledge of U.S. history, preferably in audiobook form. I checked the wiki, and it lists the Oxford History of the United States series, but I think that's much longer and in-depth than what she's looking for. I realize that any book giving a general overview of a topic as large as this is going to be incomplete, but do you have any recommendations? Thanks!

E.g. were industries boosted by increased demands for exports? Or was it more the case that total exports remained around the same, only the Europeans had replaced previous groups in carrying the trade. Also did the Columbian exchange have a significant economic impact on India as it did on China?

I'm involved with trying to put together an area with posters, newspapers, objects and memorabilia for a public display. I've never been involved with something like this, but I've been told that for some items a humidifier is required.

Does anyone have experience with this type of project? What type of humidifiers, lights and display cases are worth using? Do framed pictures (UV protecting glass and museum quality matting) need humidifiers as well? What else do I need to be aware of in a project like this?

Also if you know of another resource for getting help on something like this, if really appreciate it.

So I was looking at the biography of some famous violin players and noticed most of them were rumored to have sold their souls to the devil. I thought this relationship between the devil and music was a relatively rock and roll exclusive thing. But it was kind of weird to see for example Tartini saying the devil played a sonata for him (given how the church was at the time, and in Italy). Is there more of this cases in renaissance/Pre-modern musicians? where does it all come from?

If this question isn't appropriate for this sub I'll understand, and I'd appreciate if someone could guide me in the right direction if thats the case.

If so, what were they like? I'm sure there was trade even if indirectly though places like Timbuktu but was there ever exchanges of envoys? Where these African nations seen as on the same level as their European counterparts? Would someone like Henry VIII or Ferdinand & Isabella been aware of or concerned by their political/national actions? If not, is it more of a function of geographic distance or would things like race or religion been the limiting factor?

After learning about the Lisbon Earthquake of 1755, I was curious as to if any assistance was given to the reconstruction from other nation-states? If not with this event, when was the first case of that kind of assistance?

Would a king in one nation help its ally under those kind of circumstances? If not them, what about religious institutions?
