In a high school government class, I had to watch a video about the many struggles the United States faced during its time under the Articles of Confederation. One of these struggles was that two states were on the verge of declaring war on each other.

I don't recall what the two states were, and any attempts at trying to rediscover this were fruitless. Was it a thing that actually happened?

It is often asserted that without American support for the flagging British and French, the German offensive would have ended the war. Is this assertion valid?

When did it become popular belief that the future would be a time full of unthinkable technological advancement? Did the ancient Greeks or Romans believe their structures of democracy and republic were eternal and utopian, or did they predict any kind of development with time in governing, science or social relation?

For example labour: how many soldiers and workers to round up people, money, equipment, transportation etc.

I finished college but never took any Eastern history classes. Is there a generally respected textbook? Or are there 5-10 subjects I could read about (on Wikipedia, etc.) that would give me a decent idea of main points? Thank you.

I know there were a few mass influxes of Chinese immigrants to the west coast around the turn of the 20th century, and probably earlier? Were there journal anecdotes, etc. from residents in coastal cities about the introduction of or increase in east asian cuisine in markets and other public spaces?

I am finishing up Anna Larina's (Bukharin's wife) memoirs, and I am wondering if there are any other memoirs by Old Bolsheviks that are worth reading. Of course there is Trotsky's My Life, though I am sure that has its problems given his quest to clear his name in the Moscow show trials. I am very interested in reading firsthand accounts of the Bolshevik leaders from 1917 through World War II. I realize most of these people were executed, and those that survived would like write to either justify their crimes or absolve themselves. But Kremlin life during this time interests me, so even suggestions of works of history that provide substantial excerpts of primary sources would be much appreciated.

I understand that the tsar's whole family was killed, what would cause such a thing to happen?

I figured this would be a FAQ but I looked on the FAQ and did not see it.

I'm interested in finding out some of the similarities in culture, expression, and general way of life between "Old World" civilizations (Greeks, Romans, Egyptian, Persian, Chinese, etc) and the Mesoamerican civilizations (Aztecs, Mayans, etc).

How did all the other governments agree to go along with this? It seems like putting a lot of power in very few hands (or perhaps one could say, it takes away a lot of power from most other hands)? Why did most countries see this is as fair?
