I was watching Narcos and was wondering about the hisotrical accuracy of this and of Goodfellas. I know there are super inaccurate movies, like the Titanic, but I want to find more accurate depcitions of hisotry through movies. I guess I dont have the time to read as much as I'd like, so Cinema and this Subreddit fill that gap well. Any thoughts?

Its no secret that New York City is the largest city in the US, let alone the state its in, which has the same name. It's been a major city for a long time, so I don't see why it wasn't made the state capital of New York rather than Albany. Is there a historical reason for it?

Obviously, there have been other periods of "Dark Ages" in history - like ancient Greece following the bronze age collapse. So what was the rest of the world doing during the European dark age? Where there other societies experiencing "renaissances"?

I've repeatedly seen that Stephen Ambrose isn't respected much for his historical accuracy. That he's a great storyteller, but mostly relies on U.S. soldiers who (obviously) can only give their side of the story, but also might have failing memories. How do historians feel about David McCullough? I'm currently reading his bio of Truman, and it's a great read. But I'd like to know how trusted it's details are.

Second question: At what point did they become allies?

Mongolia was clearly a satellite of the Soviet Union at that point, why didn't they just join the Warsaw Pact? It's leaders were very pro-Soviet and many of its people as well.

Just had this thought today. It seems a bit odd to me that the Japanese would want to fight for the Axis, when Germany was driven by the belief that the white-skinned, fair-haired Aryans were the superior race. How aware was Hirohito and the Japanese people of this? Did they know, but joined Hitler's side for other reasons? I am probably grossly oversimplifying this issue, but it has been bugging me.

As above, was Joan of Arc (aged 19 when dead) actually trained in any real capacity in military leadership or combat before or during her contributions to the wars she was famous for (e.g. siege of orleans)?
