We now take for granted world population counts, but I would guess that's only after many failed attempts. Is there a definitive moment when an accurate tally was investigated and released?

Not sure where I got them from but had them awhile. I haven't been able to locate any info on them but did have a gold & silver shop tell me they look legit. For example, would a Chinese army fighting off Mongol hordes of horse archers with gunpowder weapons find themselves at a disadvantage because the weapons took so long to load? Or would these gunpowder units have been small, specialized units that fought alongside their conventional army?

I was hoping somebody might be able to give me some information about and/or point me towards some resources about the Scottish colonies in America (Like Nova Scotia or Darien) and what a colonist might have done in their daily life. many of them are Native Anatolian, and in the coastal regions many are just islamised Greeks in places like Thrace, Izmir, etc, Turkic linage is complicated, the reason they call themselves "Turks" has little to do with genetics and more to do with language, and cultural identity. the more east you go in turkey, the more Asian looking people you will find, if you go to the coastal regions in the west you will see many white looking people, remember that Anatolia was inhabited by Native Anatolians including Greeks, and when the Turks moved in those people just adopted the culture, language, religion etc, just because a culture changes, doesn't mean genetics do. This is why many people today will say some Greeks and Turks look alike remember all of Turkeys major cities, were Greek at one point, Izmir, Antalya, Istanbul, etc. Many of the people in these regions did flee, but many stayed and over time just adopted the Turkish identity, which mostly meant adopting Islam I wouldn't say they are "Eourpean" tough, most Turks themselves wouldn't say that or ever want to say that, but it is a Eurasian country with many white people, islamized Greeks, and other Balkan populations, including white Native Anatolians people, such as the Lydians even looking at Ataturk he had blonde hair and blue eyes. You're Italian, think of it like Magna Graecia, many people in southern Italy were Greeks at one point, had Greek culture, etc and were later "Italianized" during the middle ages, but genetically they are still close to Greeks, what makes them "Italian" is language, and culture they adopted.

I'm thinking of the opening credits to Cheers and the men are in suits and the women are in fancy dresses and large hats. Today it seems society is so much more casual. I don't spend any money on hats or dress clothes. Any comparisons of then to now?

I've just started a course that is supposed to be an introduction to Japanese culture and history. There aren't many readings assigned in the class, and I was wondering if anyone can point out some good books or other resources for learning early Japanese history. Whenever I look up "Japanese history books", the books that come out are about modern history. Can someone direct me to some good sources about ancient or any other pre-modern Japanese history? Thank you!

I had a history professor make this claim in a class that explored the history of enlightenment ideals. It seemed a little farfetched to me, but with more thought I could see how this may be the case. I'm not sure whether I should accept his view or not.
