I'm guessing conscientiousness about eye protection has increased recently and many work sites require it. Did people protect their eyes before plastic? Were glass masks used? I image they would pose their own danger.
So I don't get hit with the throughout history rule I'll ask about Europe pre-industrial revolution and post.

80 men in a century
6 centuries in a cohort
10 cohorts of legionnaires.
the "First Cohort" double the men as I read they had
Each cohort has an officer and standard.
120 cavalry on each wing
300 light infantry in the rear.
Also, I was trying to go with the Marian legion reforms, not sure if I am correct. Would any of you historians be able to confirm or critique what I've come up with?

I noticed while looking at the wikipedia page on Patricians that some of the gens such as Claudia and Sulpicia list influential people belonging to those dynasties all the way up to the early medieval period. This gives me a few questions
Were the people in the 4th and 5th centuries with the names Sulpicius and Claudius actually descended from the ancient Sulpicians and Claudians? I thought Tiberius or Caligula or one of those early crazies had purged all the true patricians from the senate (and executed a lot of them).
If not, why did they have these names?
What happened to the Patrician families throughout the principate and dominate?
What was the role of these families in the 5th century?

In English class, we're studying a poem where Lucrezia De Medici features, and its set in 1564. Being an English teacher, she knows about the background a says the De Medici family was a small unknown family. I have a feeling this is wrong from what I know about the renaissance, but I was wondering if you guys could give me the truth.

In another subreddit, we were discussing the nature of the relationship between the Nazis and the Roman Catholic Church.
Another Redditor stated that
It's actually believed that a pretty significant portion of Nazis were excommunicated.

I recently read a sample of "Towards the Flame : Empire, War and the End of Tsarist Russia" by Dominic Lieven featured in The Economist about WWI from the Russian perspective, I highly recommend some of you to check it out but it brought up this question in my head...
