I'm currently doing some reading on North Korea for fun. In a book Without You, There is No Us My time with the Sons of North Korea's Elite written by Suki Kim I stumbled upon a fascinating part in which the writer, a teacher explains taxes to North Korean students

They were also confused by taxes (...). Since their argument for the superiority of their society was that everything in North Korea was free, my explanation confused them. (...) They nodded, but I was not sure how much they understood.

I was really surprised so I Googled that, but the most further I got was

Taxes were abolished in 1974 as remnants of an antiquated society

usually without citations. So my questions are

How did the political elite justified the abolition of taxes?

What school of thought influenced them?

Do we have any information about how the population reacted to the abolition of taxes?

Would a normal person like me be aware of Mozart, Bach, Beethoven, Chopin if I lived when they were alive, or it was more of a high class thing?

Many of us remember Kaiser Wilhelm II's famous joke about looking forward to seeing a performance of Shakespeare's play, The Merry Wives of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha, but I'm curious about how this change (and the corresponding change of the name in Belgium as well) was greeted by those German members of the family who still maintained it.

Before World War 1, did German possessions in Papua New Guinea, Melanesia, and Polynesia have much significance to the German economy? Was much German media set in those places? Did the German people and government care much when these colonies were lost?

Despite Watergate and extending the Vietnam war, he sign EPA and OSHA, and opened up trade with China. But I don't know how much that was his initiative. I don't know much about Nixon but want to learn more. What's a good resource to learn more?

I've been reading some ancient Greek history lately, and I have seen several references to armies or navies singing paeans during or before a battle. Do historians have any idea about lyrics or what these might have sounded like?

We've all seen it tons of times in TV and in movies, but does it happen in real life? Do serial killers ever try to kill (successfully or not) the detective/investigator/agent/whatever who is pursuing them? I don't just mean sending letters (through the media or otherwise). I mean how it's often portrayed in fictional stories (physically assaulting the investigator, kidnapping, murdering, etc).

Edit: I think targeting a close friend or family member of the investigator (specifically to hurt the investigator) counts, if there are any cases of that.
