I always thought that it was very young and in the teenage years, but I've seen a lot of period shows/documentaries where that doesn't seem to be the case.

In the AMC television series "Turn" many of the redcoat soldiers are wearing powdered white wigs. Is that something that the common British soldier would have worn or could have afforded during the Revolutionary War period?

My sister and I have started reading the diary to my niece and nephew, and they have a ton of questions of why this happened or what caused that to start. Try as I might, I can't find anything that sufficiently explains the events in an understandable way without taking a 15 minute segue.

According to this evening's 60 minutes episode, there were many attacks by German U-Boats on American ships in the Gulf of Mexico. Is this report accurate, and are there any other instances of under reported attacks on American soil throughout the country's combat history?

Just got through watching schindlers list and I ask myself why do they hate the jews so much. The germans looked at them like they were rats not people and it definitely is a dark period in history.

I looked up why hitler hated the jews, but it seems its alot more complicated, i didnt find a clear answer.

can someone explain to me this hatred? did the germans believe they were doing good not evil with the senseless murders? does anti-semitism still exist today?

Was it something that the natives in the new world told to the explorers? Was it just something that the explorers extrapolated based on what they had found? Did it come about by some sort of misunderstanding or mistranslation?

Being a high school student, I often have to sit through presentations that promote "world peace", but I often hear the claim that humans have been entirely at peace for only 268 years of recorded history. Is this claim just a myth?

Reading through anti-miscegnation laws from the 17th-20th centuries, many of them focus on whites and blacks inter-marrying. I realise that this is because it was far more common, but I'm curious how Native American and white marriages were viewed. Certainly it must have become common, especially in areas where there was a lot of mingling, like the Cherokee Nation. Were these also seen as "crimes against God?" Why did laws not extend to include these marriages?

In the subreddit rules it says that sources are "high encouraged" and " not mandatory". Why then are answers without sources or ones that cite Wikipedia deleted? Sure, it may not be the best answer, but it opens up further discussion. Sometimes the best way to get a good answer on the internet isn't to post a good question, but instead to post a bad answer that people can work off of.

In any case, if these sort of post aren't allowed then I suggest changing the rules to say that good sources are in fact mandatory instead of trying to sound nice but acting differently.
