I just finished reading "With Hitler to the End" by Hitler's valet, Heinz Linge.

The book is interesting because Linge describes how nearly all of the people around Hitler fawned over him as a genius, including Generals, Statesman, and Professors. These people were not dumb themselves and all of them thought Hitler was a genius. I don't believe they all thought this because they were scared of Hitler, either.

Was Hitler a genius?

Also, I remember reading that European explorers compared the relationship between the shogun and the emperor of Japan as analogous to the pope and the holy roman emperor, with the pop being similar to the Japanese emperor and the shogun being similar to the HRE. If that's true, then why not translate shogun as emperor?

The mainstream thought is that of course, England won WW2. But Great Britain began to lose many of her colonies and stopped being a great empire. Her best navy in the world became a shell of its former self. She ended up on American food stamps.

Did Great Britain gain from World War 2 or did they lose? Would Britain have been better off not declaring war on Germany?

In watching the documentary "Radio Bikini", there are repeated instances of US officials saying the USA would attempt to lead an effort or find a way to ban nuclear weapons among all nations, assuming they found it plausible. Was these ever sincere statements? Did they abandon such an idea only because the USSR acquired the bomb?

There's a lot of documented immigration into South America from these two nations. I recently traveled to southern Brasil where a large number of second and third generation Japanese immigrants live, and I've met several German second and third generation immigrants in Paraguay and Argentina. They look very out place ethnically but they seem to fit perfectly there. Does anyone know how they were initially able to assimilate, and how it was met by the citizens from those countries.

Hello all,

My grandfather was a captain in the us army. 9th army, 102nd division, co. G. I never met him and my family doesn't know much about his service other than he served late in the war, but was awarded a silver star for a very vague citation of "gallantry crossing the xxx river". I can not locate the citation anymore but I was wondering if anyone could provide insight on his units actions/battles and especially which river his citation would have been referring to. I believe it may have started with an R but I could be mistaken. Thank you for any info.
